This thread is about: 07 civic grille, it's in Type-R at the Honda Civic forum Civinfo; Definately I think, just makes the car look that bit more unusual (Vivid blue would look good I reckon). Tom...

I think it's better than the original crystal clear, but never as good as Type-R grille

Funnily enough I bought a spare grille off ebay the other day (As new condition for a whopping £4.99... right place, right time) with the express idea of doing this exact mod to my NHB EX.

And at that price, if I don't like it it's no money lost really?

Go for it.
You can start a new competition:
"Who's got the most rediculous grill?" LOL
In my opinion of course.

I like the look of that. It would be interesting to see what it would look like on a NHB.Not a red grill but a black one...not a Type R grill either but a painted black one...if you get my drift....I will just get my coat ...

Well, fitting a Type-R mesh grille and red "H" to a non Type-R would be more ridiculous in my opinion

...but simply moddifing the standard grille with some NHB paint to get rid of the plastic chrome might just work... and for £5 it's worth the time taken to see what it looks like

Agreed!

I like the standard "grill" better than the Type-R one anyway.
Not many cars have that these days.
It is much more "star wars" look alike...lol.

To me it looks good becoz it's different I would also like to see how it looks in vivid clue, could someone possibly use his pix and change the colour to vivid blue to see how it looks?

If this can be done to the front, what about the side indicators and rear lights, can they be removed and opened up as well?

Yeah it is difficult to photoshop it, but ***** for the pix, I think it might actually look quite cool on the vivid blue, maybe I'll make an attempt on it by taking some plain paper or something and spraying that blue and placing it over the silver pieces just to see how it would look before actually spraying it...If anyone else gets to do it first, post a pic

How did he get the grill pieces seperated, is it just a few clips that needs to be removed?

I'll let jaso answer that one in more detail, but basically, yes - lots of clips
(which are a bit fragile, so patience is required )

I've only had a quick look at the grille so far but looking at the type of plastic involved in the clips a good tip would also be use of a hair dryer to heat up (and soften) the clips before undoing them, this greatly reduces the chance of snapping.
This worked a treat on another car I had to strip the lights of.

'sa good idea CivPilot

great care does need to be taken when removing the centre grill bit (as Jaso mentioned / found) as the bottom 2 clips to hold it to the car are easily snapped (as I found out a few months back )

Why not use clingfilm to try the paint on????? I.e. cover the grill part in clingfilm before painting so you can peel it off if you don't like it?
