Does the old one have VSA? Because Clarkson didn't mention taking it off like he usually does (example being the M5 where he took the traction off) never noticed any warning triangle on the dash.
Just wondered if that was kicking in then? Plus if you had clarkson in the old one and the Stig in the new one what one would have one? My guess is the new one for the simple fact that the Stig or another trained driver knows how to take it right to the limit |

The majority of people who have the new Type R are obviously going to be slightly upset that the car that they have spent their hard earned cash on has been reviewed as 'not being as good as the old one'.
I have owned a 2002 Type R from new and I have recently driven the new Type R on a two week loan. I think that the new one was a better car than mine - so just because JC says something on Top Gear doesn't mean it is gospel. It is up to every one to form their own opinions (and personally I think JC is a tosspot). I think part of the problem was that the old Type R got such a good review that everyones expectations were far too high for the new one. Also, I must say that angie4m is not making too many friends with her sweeping comments about drivers of the old Type R. |

All it is, is biased entertainment. They did spend 15 minutes of their precious time on it, so they know it is a special car. Normally they only review supercars that none of us can afford.
They were right about the memory with the seat though............ |

2. He was actually right on everything he said, it does understeer, it does have a compromised suspension, rear vision does take some getting used to and the seat function is crap. Dont worry He was really nit picking because he couldnt find very much wrong with the car. 3. It did go round the track faster than the old one (Stig driving) |

Someone send the above and all the other pro new Civic TV progs' and car Mags' to the BBC, together with a reminder of what TG thought of it, when it first appeared on the streets.
Maybe they will sack the silly sod or even get the stig to drive it round the track, as he would know how to drive it, being half the weight of that b-gger. Hope you are listening in Honda U.K., cos we are on your side here. ( So, get your C.Services. in order, for us loyal owners ) |

Honda have tried to get away from their image of the CTR being a boy racer car. It costs more to buy and insure and no doubt run! As for the old CTR, I don't know anyone over the age of 25 who drives one! He also got it right about the boot being big enough for a sound system, most folk with the CTR aint gonna do that. Fact of the matter is Honda designed the new Type R to get away from the stereo typical driver which was a young male in his early 20's.....it now aimed at mid 30's professionals. Example.........today minding my own business in a 40 limit doing 40 dead on and all of a sudden out of nowhere a gunmetal grey old style type r comes out of nowhere full of young lads and tries to overtake. I have to brake hard for the fact there is something on the other side of the road and he would hit a traffic island and then me! These are the kind of drivers I come up against every day in the old CTR, I must say on an occassion you do see someone in their 30's/40's and they are actually driving like every other civilised human being unlike the lads who think they are Lewis Hamilton! |

Over the years I have come to realise that most of what comes out of Jezzas mouth is utter drivel. He's a funny guy and I enjoy the programs he makes, but you would be a lunatic to base any car judgement on his opinion.
I had the old EP3 Type R for 4 years and I have been driving the new one for a couple of months. I struggle to think of many things that I would like to carry over from the EP3 to the FN2. The FN2 supasses the EP3 in almost every area; stearing feel, seats, stereo, sound insulation, general build quality, engine note etc. I'm also enjoying the extra kit like the rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, climate control etc. All of these combine to create a better car for the day-to-day driving. Ok, the ride is still stiff but so was the EP3. Jezzas comments about the seat adjustment is valid I suppose, but the EP3 was exactly the same. He seemed to gloss over that. And the rear view really doesn't bother me at all (in fact I quite like the way it cuts out car headlights at night). Oh, and the end result of the lap was that it was quicker than the 5k more expensive Golf GTI. So all those comments about its handling went in the bin. Its a shame Hammond or May didn't do the test drive, maybe then we would have had a more balanced review. I wouldn't go back to the EP3 if you paid me. |

Gallardo ? yeah, right. That's the car where the fuel filler cap doesn't work (see back a few Top Gear episodes), just like on our Civic's Personally I've like to see the Hamster test it instead. It suits him better then it does Clarkson. We would've seen a very different review I think. |

I have found the new CTR very refined and fast compared to the cars I have been used to. I feel that JC's review of it tonight was a bit unfair, he really needed to justify his previous review back in May in the Times. After all the good things that have been said about it, he needed to save face and not have to admit he was wrong. The faults he picked up on were so pathetic, yes the seat are poor and yes the spoiler cuts across the rear view mirror but we have eyes we can see that for ourselves. Yes the beeper tells you the keys are in the ignition, so what???? But to say " as a hot hatch it is rubbish" and then for it to go around the track in such an good time is a bit of a contradiction in terms. |

I currently own the 'old type r but am about to pick up a new one in 2 weeks time. I love my old car especially the handling and the fantastic engine. I don't think any other manufacturer has come up with so much power out of a normally aspirated engine yet. So when the new type r was launched i wasn't disappointed that the engine was the same and i love the new styling. Buying another one was an easy decision.
So what if its a tiny bit slower don't think i'm going to notice that much - certainly didin't feel slower on the test drive. You still get that kick of the power surge when you vtech it. I think the old one just feels quicker because its much more raw and basic. New one lost out to the old one in Top Gear feature because JC's driving is c**p. Quicker lap time by Stig is proof! So I and all the other Type r owners on this forum will be very happy with their cars I'm sure. After all we own them and drive them every day. What really p****s me off about Top Gear feature is that so many people watch it and base their opinions on it. So all i will get for the next few months is people telling me my new car isn't as good as the old one...... |

Yes you're right so many people will take that review as the one that matters. They won't bother looking at all the other glowing reviews unless thay are thinking of buying one and start digging for info. That's the reason why we are so aware JC is talking crap. |
