you don't have to drive it to see what it looks like and to see that it no longer has its USP. He was also spot on with the comments about the jittery ride in the current civic and so fairly sure his comments on the new civic are reasonably accurate. The only thing he said that I didn't agree with was the layout of the dials. I have to conceed the point that I haven't actually driven one, but I realy wanted to see a civic that says "I've got to get myself one of those" like the current civic, and not one that says "Another bland no character 'also ran' car"

Ok. ok... I'm not saying its a rubbish car. Honda dont do rubbish on the whole. I'm just saying Honda have had the chance to take all the faults of the current civic, sort them all out and then put it into a body shell like no other,... like the next step away from what we have now but even more unique. I just feel the new shape now just looks like every other car on the road. To me thats a step in the wrong direction for Honda.

Ok... what was it about the civic that made you just have to have it over all those other cars?

Mainly little things like, the engine start button, unique looks, the speedo being the thing at the top of the dash right in view, amount of extras for the price, satnav, cruise control, voice, bluetooth, xenons, etc, the power of the diesel compared to other cars, its a honda! and some more i probably cant think of right now.
all of which the new civic has except the pricing which would obviously make me think twice, but im still sure id go for it if i was looking for a good diesel hatchback. |

But the current civic already has all those things including cheaper price tag and far better looks. I look at it like this... if both generation civic cars were brought out at the same time and neither of them had been seen before (comparing identical models of course). Which one would you go for? In all honesty I would go for the current civic. But if you think the new generation civic is better then I bow to your personal choice. I'm not trying to tell anyone my opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong, just... well, realy that I think Honda has just missed a trick with this one. Or perhaps I was just expecting too much radicality (if that's a word) from the new version civic?

O dont get me wrong so would I, but comparing them to other new models, the only other one that I would come close to choosing would be that new focus.
Everyones opinion is welcome, cus thats how the companies make money by selling cars people like, I still think that the new civic will sell aswell as the current one has |

The prices are virtually unchanged for the whole range. The only exception being the EX models, which have been hiked. Question: How many people bought the EX models on the 8 gen? Answer: No where near as many that bought the SE, ES and Sport. |

I was hoping the new Civic would be better than the new Focus I am thinking of buying but I am a bit disappointed. OK it looks a little better with maybe slightly better build quality but it doesn't seem to have moved on, it offers little new over the old model other than some of the faults have been fixed, which shouldn't have been wrong in the first place. The choice of engines is limited to say the least and the paint on the one I saw was aweful. When you can get £4k discounts on a high spec Focus, it's a no-brainer.

USP for me was the LCD speedo and the Triangles.
Seriously... It was. I knew nothing of the magic seats or the trendy rear door handles. I actually thought they were all two door !! I knew my car was coming to the end of its life so I had been looking at vehicles as they passed me on the motorway. Being a trucker I can see down into you lot as you pass by. My age now (50) means I am now long sighted so looking at analogue dials on the dash is a pain (and a blur). My truck has LCD speedo so I knew that's what I wanted in my next car and I also wanted a diesel. Now there are a few vehicles that have LCD speedos so what clinched it ? The Triangles <--Silly ? Absolutely, but then personal likes are silly really. Most cars these days are all pretty much on a par with each other in every way so these little "silly" things are what make you choose one model over another. They just got rid of my personal "silly" USP !! I wonder if the dude who lost the Triangles .... Finds his P45 in the post ? |

Of course, but that's not where most of the sales are.
To be honest, it puzzles me why people buy such a fully loaded small to mid sized family hatchback new. If I was after all that kit I think I'd get a used Accord or something a little more up market. |

Anyway i was looking for a reliable, quick, hatchback diesel and guess what this fell straight into that criteria I would very much consider my next car to be an accord infact, the type s preferably, but they are much more in price, another reason that kept me in the hatchback market. |

When I was looking for a civic, the EX was the only model I was considering, as it was fully loaded which for me is a plus... Its got everything to keep me satisfied for the next few years until I decide to change cars again! (Apart from doing a few extra mods lol)
It would have been a type S for me but as I required a 5dr had to go for the EX in diesel. |

Havent seen the review yet but not suprised at them adding the rear wiper, when I was reading reviews on the net before buying this one everyone complained about that, from 'proper' critic to general owners comments.
