Goodbye 8th Gen, Hello 9th....

Today I picked up my new 1.8 EX-GT and so far I am loving it

I will post some pics later, but here are some quick initial observations...

This car is what the 8th Gen should have been... Honda has listened! The first thing I noticed was the build quality, it is rock solid with a very premium feel... as Pottsy said in his review, there are no cheap plastics to be found! It feels like an Accord.

Then there is the ride... The car is quiet, smooth and refined... a massive improvement on the 8th Gen and this is based on only driving if for less the 30 miles, so once the engine has loosened up a bit, I'm sure it will get better.

The technology inside is amazing and very well implemented. I did not even notice the auto stop/start until I remembered about it about 5 miles from the dealer lol... completely unobtrusive.

The premium stereo sounds very good... I'm no audiophile, but this is very noticeably better than my old EX-GT. The sub woofer is very good

The I-Mid is very good and well positioned and thought out. I know for some the ability to change the trip functions only when station is an issue, but the HDD Navigation system also shows trip data, so I have set the I-Mid to range (Which is prob the most useful to me) and will use the nav screen to check mpg etc.

I know the looks are controversial, but it is much better in the flesh than pics... It looks a lot more grown up and executive. I get it! I get what Honda has done... The 8th Gen was sportier and edgier looking, but the 9th is not a sports orientated car... it's a luxury family car. I loved my old EX-GT, but this is a class above and you can't even compare it to a CTS or CTR... as they are pitched at a completely different market.

BTW, the rear visibility is fine... as was in the old car and that's my only issue with the new model... the rear wiper! It does not need it and never has...

.

This seems to be the norm that those who are in a position to compare old with new, all post that it is better in most/all respects. The only negative posts are those who are just standing behind it for a few minutes or looking at photos.

My reason for hanging on partly rests with Honda:

1) Waiting for the alleged iMid fix
2) Waiting for online documentation so I can compare SD v HDD navigation in full detail

Glad you are enjoying it.

I look forward to all the upcoming electronics modification threads (no pressure!)

I haven't driven a 9G myself, but those who have seem to agree that it is a better car, I think the criticisms are mainly regarding the visual design compared to the 8G.

New Civic not for me.

I have a 2009 5door 1.8i Executive as daily driver. Yes the building quality is not that good, suspension can be better, economy can be better and more little things. But what i do like is inside, the looks, all extra's, steering, seats and the space. I drove the new one and i was not impressed at all. Indeed better building quality but that should have been solved years ago. (Honda should have bought a Golf and learned form it how to do it properly.) I do not like the new dashboard with the strangelooking navi unit in it. (looks very Halfords aftermarket.) Suspension is better and more quiet but less sharp. Same with the steering. Less Honda, more comfort. To me its a good car but again too expensive over here in the Netherlands. Over 40000 euro for a Executive is over the top. The biggest thing that puts me off is its looks. The front is just not nice. And the sharkthing on the roof, so BMW. I just do not like the looks at all. A bit the same as my Civic but softer. But that's my personal opinion, lots of people love it. I keep my Civic in the family but no new Civic for me in the near future. (Accord Estate 2.4 will be an option)

Heres some pics at last lol....

IMG_1136.jpg IMG_1140.jpg IMG_1138.jpg IMG_1142.jpg

Not even 100 miles and very impressed... the ride and suspension is really good. Absorbs the bumps brilliantly and very quite in the cabin. I never thought the my old EX was a bad ride, just a bit firm and bigger bumps (alot of them now in the UK lol) did make the suspension a bit crashy.

The 9th gen is not photographic! It really does look better in real life than pics.

I think it looks great, just different to the 8G and some people just don't like different at first, then it becomes the norm and they like it :s

As I understand it you can't rotate round the trip computer display options via the steering wheel buttons like you can in the 8G.

Therefore, if you get the low fuel warning you can't simply rotate round the trip computer options whilst on the move from say average MPG to 'miles to go' for example.

You have to park up, put the handbrake on and change it via the 'settings' menu

True, you do have to stop... But I don't find it an issue as I have the imid set to range and use the excellent trip computer on the Nav.
