I hear everyone with a gripe about the fuel consumption. I've now done a few k but the car has done 9500 & i can only get a maximum combined of 39 MPG. With a quoted 55 MPG combined I was expecting at least 45 MPG. The most I have got is 51 MPG on the motorway driving like a granny. Passers by must have though I was towing an invisible caravan.

I must say I agree... am slightly disappointed with the mpg... was expecting around 45 at least but I have to be very careful to get about 42-43...

My 1.8 normally returns 37-39mpg (trip computer says about 43). I am quite surprised at the low figures people are getting from the diesel.

This may correlate with the weight of the foot

Having recently purchased a 2.2 SE that was only registered in September 07 I am pretty much dissapointed with the CD player. It should, I believe display the album name, track currently being played etc but never does. On raising this issue with my dealer I am informed that it only displays mp3 burns etc and not the pre-recorded CD's. No matter what I play from a shop bought latest eagles album to CD's burned from my PC it shows zilch!! And I reckon my dealer is fobbing me off. Help.

One feels this may be a mistaken post?

Diesel mpg

I have had mine since 13th March. Done 900 miles now. First tank got 37, second 40.5 and so far have 43 in this tank. I do 15 miles to work through the centre of Birmingham and 23 miles home on the M5 and M6. My Peugeot was pretty much the same when new, and from memory did poll lower mpg's for the first couple of tanks than my Civic.

Mine also has a bit of a rattle, not as bad as the Peugeot, but is smooth as a baby's butt once warmed up.

Not sure about the display for playing CD's, but I have only seen the Artist/Song data displayed on MP3's. The one I burnt works perfectly okay.

08 Honda Civic 1.4 SE

Have owned the car for 1 week and have covered 300 miles
Wow, what a great car. Interior great and have been getting 48.5 mpg on trip computer with a relative light foot.

MP3 player displays all info required from MP3s if you cycle thru it with the display button.

The performance is equal to my 03 1.6 16v megane.

Very pleased

Had my type S GT, about 5 weeks now and done 2000 miles, i am averaging about 47 MPG, a mixture of motorway were I tend to stick around the legal limit and 8 miles across Birmingham, I quite often go home across country where it uses the engine a bit more, so I am not too disappointed with what I am getting.

Just before I bought the Civic, I looked at the BMW 1-Series diesel and my god, that was ultra-quiet. Seriously, the dealer drove up the test car and it sounded as hushed as a petrol. So I don't think the Civic wins in that category (although its still a bloody good engine).

As for fuel economy - I've done nearly 20k now, and I'm getting around 46mpg on average per tank. Would be good if it wasn't for the diesel prices!

Regarding the CD player - the unit doesn't show any tags unless you are playing MP3s. The display is one of the weak points of the car actually. It doesn't scroll when it shows info, and takes an age to bring up track info when skipping tracks.

My 1.8 petrol has averaged 28mpg for its first 450 miles which includes some 'gentle' motorway driving. I was hoping to do at least 35mph.

Early days, electric, I can keep mine around 40 mpg now with a combination of short and long runs (1.8ES) Cruise helps a lot in 30 mph traffic in 5th, so give it a little time to settle then see how it goes. Not time to panic yet, I don't think.

Well it sure is an excellent drive Jazzman and much more responsive and comfortable than the Golf diesel which I have just spent four days driving around Slovenia - free hire car upgrade..

However asidefrom the CD issue I have been more wound up by the screeching sound coming from the rear brakes - twice into dealer and still squeeling!! Also the vibration from front left beneath dash takes some getting used to. Apart from that, it beats the likes of the Golf anyday.

So once you get rid of your screech and vibration you will have a great car to enjoy, that`s good news

I've had my Type S GT 1.8 for 3 months now and have covered the vast mileage of 800 ish miles, am currently getting approx 20 mpg if i'm lucky but then all my driving is town and rarely higher than 3rd gear. The two times i've had a longer journey using motorways etc its been up in the 40s so i'm more than happy with it so far.....
