57 EX Diesel - 4 days in
Well I've had the EX 4 days now, and so far so good. It may not have the build quality that the Merc had but it doesn't rattle or squeak. Road noise is higher than that I had on the Merc.
The handling is nice and firm, and that's how I like a car to handle. It's nothing like my old Type R, but a lot better than the Merc. Gearbox is good and changes well. Visibility is poor at the rear but I knew this anyway, and it's not a major issue as far as I'm concerned, however what does throw me still is the bonnet length or lack of it. Speaking of the bonnet size, how small is that engine. Performance is very good for a diesel, nice and torquey from 2nd gear and up however I do think accelerating from 70 in top gear is not as quick as the Merc was, at least that's my perception. I can't comment on mpg yet as I've only just filled the tank, but so far the needle hasn't moved in about 60 or so miles. The dash layout is fantastic and very easy to read. Unfortunately it does feel cheap inside compared to German cars, but it is very well laid out. SatNav so far seems pretty good, but when I said "nearest Chinese" the closest one it found was 66 miles away. Voice activation is ok, but sometimes struggles with 1 or 2 commands. All in all, I am very pleased with the Civic, and think it was a better choice than a Golf in the end, and certainly better than my Merc. I really would like to have a go in one of these in Type R guise. My 05 CTR was a fantastic car, but the Mrs didn't like the ride. Last edited by Chris_J; 18th May 2008 at 20:16. |

C220 CDi coupe. Nice car, but I was never really happy with it, and there always seemed to be this unsteadiness which nobody could solve, and even said I was imagining it.

Yes totally miss the R, but common sense has to come through here and I had to cut the running costs too. Mind you, it was cheaper to run than my remapped MK4 Golf GTi.
