2.2 EX after 2 months

I've had the Civic for nearly two months and 2000 miles now, so what's the verdict to date?

Engine: Very smooth and quiet with plenty of mid-range power on tap. Great on the motorways.
Gearbox: Like a knife through butter. 10/10!
Ride/handling: Can be a bit jumpy at times, but seems much better when tyre pressures are spot on (as they should be...). Does prefer nice smooth roads...but so do I!
Interior: Brilliant! Leather seats comfortable and supportive. Panoramic roof makes it feel light and spaceous. My Nokia 6125 works well and I've not got lost yet with the satnav. Dash is not easy to keep dust free, but have found Rich 11's suggestion to use Mr Sheen Anti-Static polish works well (thanks!). Blue interior LEDs seem to go down well with my daughter's friends who all seem impressed (Cooool is their normal comment!). I thought that rear visability would be more of a problem, but sensors are fine and I just seem to have got used to it very quickly.
Exterior: More marks/chips on the front bumper than I would expect to see (no surprise there then!)
Practicality: Another brilliant! We've got 2 dogs and a holiday home in Northumberland, so often setting off with a car full of stuff. Changed from an X-Trail and have to say that we hardly notice the difference. Dogs lie comfortably in the back, whilst 'cinema' seats are fantastic for luggage. No space saver yet (...still not sure what to do) so odds and sods hidden well away.
Economy: So far so good. Tend to do lots of short local trips (around 40-45mpg) and the regular 200 mile trips to Northumberland (approx 51mpg). I'm sure I could do better, but tend to irritate the wife by watching the green lights more than the road ahead. She's also not too impressed with travelling at 50 mph on the motorway just for the thrill of seeing the average mpg tick up an extra tenth!

Overall then, a prety good first report. Our other car (driven and chosen by 'er indoors) is a Golf 2.0TDi 140. She did test drive a Civic at the time but wasn't convinced, amongst one or two other things, by the rear view. But, now she's driven mine a few times it's gone from 'I suppose it's not too bad' to 'I'll take your car, I won't be long' and 'I think I might have a Civic when I change the Golf'!!

Many...many years ago I had an Escort Mk1 RS2000 and I have to say that the Civic, in it's own way, gives me a similar smile to drive (perhaps I really am getting old!). Much credit also to this forum. It's all compulsive reading...thanks to all my new 'friends'.

Thumbs up Good Review

Yes, they do get addictive, don't they ?

p.s. - get a skinny spare wheeel - a can of 'gunk' does absolutely nothing for you, at 02:00, in the rain, when you discover a gashed side-wall !

Nice report, Eleven, thank you. I think you will find a lot of agreement with your comments here, my wife has the same problem with my attention on the mpg !! The whole point, however is to get it to a point where I earn the right to Vtec it like mad when she isn't in the car, LOL !

I'd love to give a great review too, BUT !!... Ours is an Ex 2.2 with leather, panoramic, etc. its 9/10 months old with 1,300 miles on the clock We've been great fans of Hondas having owned 02 civic, 03 Jazz, 05 Civic and presently own a 56 CRV, and 57 Civic.
What a disappointment, we've had it slip the handbrake into a neighbours car (recall now done) and yeasterday a PGM-FI warning (dealer checked fault log on ECU - clutch pedal & oil pressure sensor). They had to reprogramme the ECU !! Excuse for problems - Parts fitted on newer Civic now come from Europe so not to same standard or quality as before. My wife is considering selling it. "power of Dreams" or worst nightmare !!

I just had this done yesterday and returned - (dealer checked fault log on ECU - clutch pedal & oil pressure sensor).

2nd trip to them this week.

Still love driving the car even though dislike my local dealer

For an owner to be I expect reading up on all the theads could leave someone on a bit of a downer.

Through my experiences, and on my second Civic,I'm well satisfied with my decisions to buy.The ES had loads of kit(I did fancy buying some alloy sill trims). The performance and economy were brilliant.

The car gave me no probs.I had the ocasional squeak come and go (I think this is partly a product of so many plastic dashboard components common with all modern cars)

The Type S I've got,12 months down the line for me is better yet again(don't need 5 doors)

Hope you enjoy your car as much as i have with mine
