Also, it never ceases to amaze me how much lighting there is on Belgian motorways. And, for sure, it must cost a fair amount to the Belgian taxpayer! ....
By law we must put on the fog light in heavy rain conditions...
Indeed, Belgium is a "bright" country on the motorways.
We need a lot of lights, otherwise airplanes would skip Belgium and land in England all the time
You did forget to mention the poor "noisy" concrete surface on a lot of highways.

Isn't it just a 'characteristic' of the road?

Thanks jayT. I found your article very useful - particularly as I am driving to Slovenia soon in the Civic!

I am not sure what I prefer in relation to roads etc. Probably miles, everything is nearer.
On the other hand, the distances marked on the road signs drop more quickly - 'specially on long journeys!

I am wondering as you ar in Hungary, do you have CD for your sat nat? Obvioulsy are disk only covers western europe, but we enquired in a dealership in vienna and they said that there is an Eastern european disk, they didnt have 1 in which we could buy though. Is this true?

By the way i found the roads in Hungary very good, apart from the queues at the border coming in from Austria. I will be driving through again this month on route to greece, and then will be driving to budapest in october to watch greece v hungary!! What is driving/parking like in budapest?
