Re. the "Car of the Year" award. I think if you got five panels of "experts", they would arrive at different conclusions. It makes for a good discussion in the pub though. |

More grist for the mill - just scanned Autoexpress at Sainsburys (as you do) and noticed that it (1.8 ES) beat the Focus, Golf and Toyota Auris in a group test.

My Cousin has a Brand new V/C SXi, and it doesn't even come close to the Civic (and I know the civic is a bit more pricey, but come on......), it looks like every other Corsa ever built, theyve just moved the lights up a bit. I learnt in a Corsa and drove one for a year, but never ever ever again.

Every car mag etc has a car of the year. Auto Express overall was the Ford Mondeo, the CTR was their Hot Hatch of the year. The Corsa was the supermini of the year.
Who cares what car they say is car of the year? These guys have an opinion, but we as buyers have our own opinions and I for one won't be swayed by a review alone. |

What is your point? I would choose a Corsa over a Lambo or Porsche any day. ...NOT! LOL @ some mags ... |

I wonder if this forum is biased towards Honda?
In a moment of madness i once bough a Corsa Sxi and it was the worst car i ever drove - It had poor paint that chipped and scratched, absolutely no power from the engine and inside was totally crap, oh yeah and the dealer was pants - the car arrived 5 days early and they forgot to tell me! I had it for 6 months and changed it for a Toyota Celica 7th Gen. That was a marvellous car until i wrote it off by driving very fast into the back of a lorry - fortunately no damage to the lorry! Back pain meant that another one would have been impractical with it being so low and a hard ride etc. Who ever gives the Corsa high marks in any test must be mad or dare i say it bribed |

Of course this forum is Honda biased, but prior to selecting and buying my Civic, I looked at (literally) hundreds of car magazines to the point where I could almost recite reviews word for word!
Anyway, reading the reviews and owner reports and taking everything into account, the Civic hit my shortlist. The outstanding attitude from my local dealer sealed the deal (I always wondered why Grantham has a lot of Hondas. Now I know). Anyway, the reason I think people are taken back by the What Car choice is that its such a left-field decision that doesn't seem to make much sense and hence knocks the credibility of that magazine. Sure, Auto Express do love Hondas but their car of the year was the new Mondeo and I don't think anyone would argue with that. The Corsa though? Thats got to be a joke surely... |

Why bother with what the experts think.
Read the JD Power survey and see what the owners think. Honda's are top mostly. Regards Tony |

car of the year
Ever since the first generation Civic came to the UK in 1972, and subsequent models, What car has always had a downer on it. Yet they go overboard for Fords & Vauxhalls.
when the 1972 first generation came here it was in a league of its own compared to competion. This was when a carpet or a mw radio was an extra in the MK1 Escort ! |
