From Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport to CTS 2.2

Im now three months in on my ownership of a 2006 Type S diesel.

My old car was a 2004 Audi A3 TDI Sport 140 and i was at first dubvious about swapping it for a Civic.

Ill break down my comparison and see how it goes...

Interior?

Audi is bland but solidly built. I had the Bose sound system and CD changer but apart from them perks i got bored quickly.

The Civic has a much sportier feel and although the interior is not as solid (rattles) it is an interesting place to be!

Looks?

I always liked the A3 looks and even the newer models have not been updated much but the civic has a stance and a sporty look that the Audi just didn't have. When i have got my Civic colour coded i expect to find it even more striking.

performance?

Although both are 140bhp i can honestly say the Civic is much punchier and feels a totally different car. the Audi lacked a 1st and 2nd gear but did motor when in higher territory but the Civic does it all. The Audi was better on fuel though and did on average 47.9mpg where on same journy in Civic im getting 45mpg.

Reliability?

I have read a lot on this site about issues with Civic's but my Audi was not perfect. infact by time i sold it after 18 months of ownership the tranction control was not working and the AC had gone too! I also had to replace drop links and it ate tyres for breakfast. Its early days for the Civic but i have had some teething problems but all cars are same. I have been driving 13 yrs and had 21 cars and they have all had issues.

Verdict?

A3 is a good car and i would have one again but the Civic does something that no car since my Porsche 944 Turbo has done! it makes me smile and want to improve it and with the people on this forum helping im sure i will.

Walt.

Generally, Audi has a better built, and better running gear...i think a little bit better performance doesn't compansate this! (because these are the weakest point of the 8gen Civic)

Like i say i would have one again and probably will but the civic is fun and will keep me entertained for a couple of years at most.

As you have found German reliability is overrated. But with a Japanese car and especially Honda you know reliability is guaranteed , or so i thought based on 4 faultless Accords.

Now i own a CTR which i love but it has shattered my faith in Honda, only my wifes old Peugeot has given me this many problems.
