You all know what we really needed. Not foam, gunk, spares, cheese, brollies, fluorescent jackets or a satellite phone direct to your local automotive rescue. What really should have come with this car is indestructible tires... or more realistically run-flat tyres.

People say the industry is moving towards no spare. Surely the industry should be moving towards no punctures period. Can't wait for that to happen it'll make this whole debate redundant.

Just my opinion.

A runflat tyre can still blowout though and or get shredded.

Run flats are really just to get you to a local garage... actually i don't really know much about run flats.

But hey, if you get a blow-out or tire shredded on the motorway - whether or not you have a spare (space-saver) is gonna be the least of your worries; getting the car out of the ditch is.

But still - in regard to the post, that why we need to move towards indestructible tires.

He reckons it will cost £250 from any Honda dealer!!! Mine was £100.02 with net and cover and fitted properly into the boot-well with the retaining bolt etc.

I thought the same thing. But if someone wanted one £55 isn't bad if you live in the area. I've emailed him and it is the right size for the 8th Gen Civic.

Honda UK offer the spacesaver wheel and tyre for the new Civic in a kit form. The kit, at a discounted price, comprises of the wheel, tyre, labels/stickers, centre fixing clamp/screw, three rubber/foam pads, plastic bag and net. The tyre is put onto the wheel by the dealer. I was told that if one was to purchase all the individual items separately, the cost would well exceed the normal £100 or thereabouts. I think the seller is exaggerating a little. Where is the rest of the kit or have I missed something?

My dealer is quoting £130.00 including VAT for a spacesaver.

I had a puncture before Christmas and had to buy a new tyre.

Haven't bought a space saver as yet.... Living in Yorkshire is rubbing off on me and it's 18 years since my last puncture.

I am going to buy a space saver tomorrow after the night I have just had.

Managed to hit a huge newly created pot hole (eroded by torrential rain today) and split my tyre. Tyre gunk was useless - had to wait three and a half hours to be recovered back home - wouldn't be so bad but was only one mile from home but didn't want to leave car - I finally got home at 1.15am

Not sure yet whether any damage has been done to wheel - just have to keep my fingers crossed - will check tomorrow morning.

So glad that I took out tyre insurance now - I haven't looked into how much a 18" Michelin is but I am guessing it wont be much different than the £130 I paid for the insurance three weeks ago

May I suggest that if you intend to purchase a space saver kit, shop around. Many Honda dealers will sell you the whole kit, tyre fitted on the wheel for £100 inc. Vat. You can actually fit the spacesaver in the boot well yourself. No big deal. Eezy peezy. That may save you the £30 labour. Yorkshire is a large county and one now has to take into account the cost of petrol, but there are savings to be had. You must have the luck of the Irish to escape a puncture for so long. Good luck!

I am definately going to fit it myself - I don't believe in paying for something that I can do myself for free. As for the cost of petrol - a phone will suffice - I am going to start phoning round as soon as the parts departments open this morning.

Just rang round a couple of dealers in Yorkshire

Stratstone Honda, Leeds quoted £113.47 inc VAT (kit unfitted)
SB Honda, Wakefield quoted £100.00 inc VAT (kit unfitted)

SB Honda have one in stock and I am just setting off to get it now.

Make sure that you get the net and bag too, as the cunning b-ggers, will try it out.
I had to roll about on the showroom floor, screaming in front of potential customers, as they iffed about it.

Everything present - spare is now on my car - just got to take car to kwikfit this afternoon now to get tyre on Alloy replaced.

Had a look round alloy and no sign of any damage - tyre has quite a large split in it which would explain why the tyre weld didnt take.

Hopefully the only cost to me will be the cost of the spare which I was going to get anyway.
