I understand that some breakdown services exclude recovery if no spare is present, but as this is a tailored service offered by the manufacturer that provides no spare wheel.

I can only hope that on this occasion the AA were wrong. I will contact Honda CS to confirm the situation. If I get anything in writing, I will post so people can carry with them.

I have just phone HCS, and they are sending me a copy of their T & C's of their AA contract and they are going to bring the matter up at their next meeting with the AA.

HCS's view is that Honda Assist should recover a car where the tyre cannot be repaired at the roadside.

For us, a spare is a necessity, and in hindsight I wish the dealer had mentioned it...

I couldn't agree more, the dealer never even mentioned buying a spare...... the "goo was just as good"....."if not better".......Always, I mean Always record conversations, it's harder to deny things later on (thats what I do!), Congrats on the check, but it's little compensation for all that worry.....

Maybe I'll give them a bell too, as I was under the same impression as everyone else, that you didn't have to worry because you had the assist, anything went wrong they dealt with it, seems they are selective though.....typical Honda.

Remember, once you have purchased your spare you can transfer it to your new Civic when you purchase it!

If you only have the goo you have to replace it after use. Probably cost around £30, or so. May as well put that £30 towards a proper spare.

Well, I've just been on to my dealer and he corrected me on the price for the replacement goo.

It's not about £30; it's actually.....wait for it....wait for it....about £50.

Unhappy

Hi ,

Yesterday i checked the reserve tyre and it“s not a full size as i had said

It“s some kind of Space Saver , a Bridgestone in a 15" iron rim .
I only had taken a peek in the dealers when i picked up the car and hadn“t realized it wasn“t a full size tyre (its quite large )
Sorry about that , but i can confirm that it comes as standard in the models sold here in Portugal .

Regards

The AA man arrived an hour and half after being called out. It was obvious to him straight off that the tyre was not repairable and as there was no spare wheel, he could help no more. He called back to HQ for a mobile tyre fitting company to be called in.

Two hours later, the tyre fitting company had still not arrived, so the AA decided to send a flat bed truck to recover the car and bring it home, as long as the mobile fitters did not show up.

THe flatbed truck arrived, but as the mobile fitters were due to arrive in a few minutes, so the AA didn't recover the car after all.

Mobile fitters arrived, replaced the tyre for the handsome charge of £183.

The second AA man, said that there was a 24 hour tyre fitting place less than a mile away, that would have changed the tyre for around the £80 mark, and he would have taken the Honda there if the mobile fitters hadn't turned up....

The AA agreed to compensate her for all the messing about, the sum of £80 (the cheque is in the post).

I don't want to get into the rights and wrongs of this situation, but the bottom line is that a single woman got stranded at night for nearly 5 hours because of a non-repairable tyre puncture. In Slough..... Imagine, David Brent might have offered his assistance

For us, a spare is a necessity, and in hindsight I wish the dealer had mentioned it...
I'm really surprised that AA man#1 didn't take the punctured wheel/tyre off,run it round to tyre place (1 mile away) wait for 10 mins for the tyre to be changed then take it back to the car!

1 He gets awarded a repair instead of recovery.
2 The recovery truck costs would have been saved
3 Mobile tyre man needn't have been called
And more importantly
4 T'other half wouldn't have had so much greef and a sensible priced tyre fitted!

I have chickened out against all my previous rants about evil spacesavers and ordered a spare

An earlier thread about someone being standed for 4 hours while the AA argued that they wouldn't tow it swung it for me (oh and running over a broken bottle yesterday (which hopefully I have got away with).

I got the whole lot fitted for £100 and I pick it up on Saturday.
