Fobbed off re: suspension squeaks?

I've noticed a few creaks and squeaks coming from my offside rear suspension for the last month and the all-round ride quality seems to have deteriorated. I asked the dealer to take a look at it when my Civ was in for service Friday and said I thought I was a victim of the well-known suspension gremlins.

When I picked my car up I was told it was all sorted and just needed lubrication, yet the noise was still there when I went over speedbumps today. It's like a low, almost rubbery sounding squeak.

I intend to contact the dealer next week, but should I be insisting on a replacement or does it sound less serious than that?

Maybe not a replacement car, but some have needed replacement front suspension sub-frame.

However, this has been more knocks than squeeks.

Sandgirl - I had problems with the front suspension, and I found the best tactic was to take the service manager out for a drive in the car and point out the fault to them.

Nope, I'm with the Wolverhampton one. I've dealt with them for the last 5 years plus as I had a used HRV through them previously which I traded in for the Civ.

Generally I've found them to be fine although they initially tried to wriggle out of giving me free MOT's that were promised in my handbook if I'd had a main dealer service during the previous 12 months. Got that sorted and had no problems since.

I won't know how they react to me reporting the fault again until I call next week, but I'm mindful of the fact that there's a known fault and the car is 2 years old so if something needs replacing it has to be done during the next 12 months or else I get hit in the pocket! I don't want the problem simply camouflaged until I'm out of warranty, although I have to say the camouflage on this occasion has been... well, a bit ***** as the problem came back within 24 hours!!

I'll keep you posted!

well my cars been back to them 3 times now, all they ever seem to do is lubricate the rear suspension components or turn the springs upside down, I was going to try a different dealership but around me they only ones are avaonvale lol.

Wahoooo!... Ain't we all just getting kicked in the teeth by Honda this week...

Sent mine in last Friday for an intermittent knocking coming from the front passenger side shocker... came back out of the service department the same evening with the explanation "We've heard it knocking, however, haven't done anything to it as we feel it needs to get worse until we can write the said part off as faulty"!!!
Sweet... off i was sent packing with a 'knock-knock here and a knock-knock there' ...and broken wingmirror electrics as they'd damaged the wiring when doing some recall work on the drivers door!

Sweeet!

Mine is now riding like a 205GTi, it crashes over all bumps and feels like it's scaffold poles for suspension. They also squeak really badly as well.

Fed up with Honda, so it's going. Never ever buy another one, I guess it's hate something change something make something better to a different car.

suspension bump stops are a common bulletin issue at the moment.there have been cases where the springs have been fitted wrong way round but very rare.when the civics first came out the rear shocks had knocking issues, they were replaced under warranty.shocks are made by sachs.hope thishelps

SNAP - except mine knocks not squeaks. My 15 year old Land Rover now rides better and more quietly.

I keep asking myself why I bought this car and didn't reject the demo car for its dreadful ride ....... but I'm sure it wasn't this bad, and neither was mine when I first had it. Over 16000 miles its gone from firm to rock hard and also I think settled. Dealer says suspension does settle a little with time, but my car rarely has more than driver only.

Got the 2nd service coming up and I am demanding they fix it this time. When I bought the car I expected reliability, I might as well have bought a Daewoo for all the reliability the Honda has.

Will never buy another UK made Honda again.
