That is a load of crap vivid bluey !! Honda Happiness hey - brilliant !! The truth is they could solve the problem by skimming your discs with a brake lathe but they get more money out of you by replacing the new disc, find somewhere near you that does skimming. It will be loads cheaper and you'll notice the difference straightaway AND it's a Honda approved process.

Seems a little excessive to me,had the same service yesterday at nearly identical mileage and my brakes do get some work.

Personally I'd be having a second opinion, you could try Kwik Fit, I don't think they'd charge to check them out.

I have now totally stopped trusting Honda Dealers. I had my Civic in for a 25000 mile service last July and was told that there was less than 500 miles wear left on all 4 sets of pads and discs. As I was a bit skint at the time I said I would take it back in a couple of weeks to get sorted. I'm glad I waited as a tame mechanic I know had a look for me and said that they all looked fine to him.

Fast forward to last sunday and 11000 miles later the wear indicators (very effective) started squealing. I took it straight round to my local Kwik Fit, as it was open on an Easter Sunday, and was told that both sets of front pads needed replacing and both front discs were borderline. The rears were fine.

The guy at Kwik Fit said that even if he was being generous, in his opinion the dealer had been trying to rip me off and I can only agree.

If you are using a dealer in Broughty Ferry, remember they are chancers so get a second opinion if you think that wear is excessive.

I have never had disk pads replaced by a dealership on any of my cars.
Have always had them done by my tyre place, which I have gone to for years now and have never let me down. I always ensure that they use the genuine ones for the cars though.
The times that I have taken the cars to them, thinking - I'll just let them do a check and they have told me all is fine, come back in 6 months.
My kid had the disks ( all 4) replaced on her V70 twice in two years, by Volvo, until I made her take it for a check at my tyre place.
What does " Not within car manufacturers tolerances" mean.? S-d off.

My rear discs are grinding like mad - it started while braking and now I hear the noise even when freewheeling. The rear offside disc is actually feeling slightly grooved (whereas the others are smooth) - I've only done 23,000 miles, any ideas?

I've looked (I've ran my finger over the discs!) but I have to hold my hand up and say I'm not sure what I'm looking for - I can't view it while the car is moving, obviously, so what is the tell-tale signs?

Almost 2 years old and at 20k miles, my rear wheels started screeching. Took it to Kwik Fit and they confirmed that the pads AND disks needed replaced. So, it would appear that I didn't get the "warning" sound.

Out of interest how much do Kwik Fit charge for a set of break pads?

Is it worth investing in them if they offer to replace them Free Of Charge for as long as you own the car?

Just interested how much they charge compared to the Dealers?

My car is due to go in for it's 3rd Service today and I am expecting the brakes to be flagged.

Do they give you the assurance, because they expect them to go wrong often????????????? I've never been a fan of letting them touch my car, as brakes are rather important.

You can see how much pad material is left by looking thorugh the wheels, if you really don't have a clue as to what you are doing get someone who does to check the brakes for you, they are rather important!!!!!!!!!!!!!

an update

been too busy to reply sooner but as an update my wife had to pay for replacements. i had problems with my brakes a week later and took mine to another branch (same franchise) and they replaced mine under warranty as they were badly worn on 1 side and hardly worn on the other and part of the pad had actually snapped off completely. if i'd have taken it to the same place my wife went i think i would had been fobbed of and asked to pay myself.... i will now travel further to go to this branch as they seem to care about the customer.

Well, it got so bad I took mine to the dealer who confirmed they were down on bare metal and had to replace both pads and discs. They are pursuing it as a warranty claim as they agree there's no way it should be that shot after 11 months / 22k (especially as 90% of my driving is motorways at 2am with no need to break for an hour or so!). But I'm only 50% hopeful.

£268 btw to replace both.
