[Alloys Corrosion] Second Set Of Altimos Blistering

This is now my second set of Altimos and 3 are beginning to blister.2 sets in 2 years, Is this normal ? My dealer is fine with exchanging them i think but will only exchange like for like and they are telling me a third set will go the same.I am waiting for a call from the main people.
Has any one else had this problem.

I am on my 3rd set of Altimo wheels due to corrosion, had a new set fitted about a month ago, the last set was only 10months old. My alloys had lots of surface lines/cracks coming from the recessed sections and from the edges of spokes. Also had couple of small patches of corrosion. The dealer took photos and replaced them all under warrenty no problem. He also said Honda had changed wheel supplier in the past because of problems but seems like it hasnt helped. I hope my new ones last longer.

Dealer told me today if they fit new ones they will go exactly the same lasting approx 1 year. That is why i am trying to get the top people to change them for something else,Storms or Blades. But do these have the same problem ?
Apparently it is because of the diamond high gloss polishing. Not the sharp edges as i was told on the last change

Sounds like you guys should insist one having a different type fitted, those sound to be unfit for purpose.

I wonder what it is with Japanese alloy wheels.

Lexus have exactly the same problem where after a few years they start to corrode, quite badly in places where they get large black spots.

I had quite a few Citroens with alloy wheels and none of them showed any signs of corrosion, even after 4 years. The Lex started in about 2.

The second downside to this is that you don't get new wheels as a replacement but refurbished ones that just don't have the same finish. Heavy laquer yes, but just not the same.

The one thing I have noticed is that there is a marking on the wheels that is identical to the one on the Lexus wheels, wonder if Honda and Lexus use the same wheel supplier ?

JWL marking is some sort of safety standard for alloy wheels in Japan, not a manufacturer name. Honda is selling the same wheels in Japan, maybe.

Mazda also suffer from poor quality wheels. I had the alloys on my 3 replaced twice in 3 years, and they had started to go again just before I traded it. I had also noticed it happening on various Mazda 6's & RX-8's in my works car park.

Would have had the wheels replaced more than twice had Mazda not dragged their heels and claimed that the wheels were on back order, only for them to miraculously appear when Mazda UK got involved.

Car before the Mazda was a Ford Puma - wheels were still in pristine condition after 4 years.

I suppose the actual wheels will be covered under some sort of manufacturers guarantee. But I can see why you are concerned with Hondas apparent lack of customer care skills.

Do you have Altimos fitted too? If so, it sounds like these wheels are rubbish.

You would think Honda would gladly swap them for different ones to save themselves the expense of replacing them this often.

They would run you about £350 each from Honda. You would be best looking on ebay, there are a set of 18" storms on there at the moment for £530.

LOL, I bought a set of new CTR wheels and tyres for £475 off ebay, just after Xmas, I kept two as spares and sold two. So there are bargains to be had on ebay.
