Brakes Poor brake feel

Hello,

My partner has been using the Civic for commuting to work for the last 6 months, and recently I've noticed the brakes are feeling very spongy. Brake pad wear is fine and there is no surface corrossion on the discs.

When braking there appears to be excessive travel in the pedal before the brakes come on. Pumping the pedal a few times improves the feel, but this very quickly disappears and goes back to feeling very spongy. A few months ago the brakes felt very sharp with very little travel.

I did read an old post with similar symptoms, and the suggestion was a brake fluid change or bleeding the brakes.

Any suggestions?

it does sound like low or contaminated brake fluid - but that is a worry in itself in a reasonably new car...

If you're confident, replace the brake fluid yourself and keep an eye on it, but personally where brakes are concerned I'd recommend a dealer visit to have them checked out.
