Civic 1.8 Sport (17", 225,45,17Z)
I've got yet another nail in my tyre, and yet again it's about 1cm from the start of the side wall, it's probably not fixable. I'm concerned about my tyre wear in the civic. Sep 06 - Purchased Car - 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 2's on it. July 07 - Back left puncture, new tyre (Michelin Pilot Sport 2) July 07 - 2 new front tyres, company repairing puncture point out fronts are almost illegal (After 10 months ? and about 10k miles - Told to get Michelin Pilot Primacy as they are better wearing Mar 08 - Another puncture 1cm from side wall, this time the front left, will need a new tyre. After around 19200 miles and 10000 since last tyre changes Current Tread - Fronts Left 5mm (needing replaced) Primacy - Front Right 5mm Primacy - Back Right 5mm - Sport 2 - Back Left 7mm - Sport 2 So my questions - Is this tyre wear normal, seems very excessive on the fronts, even with "supposed" good wearing Primacy, wife is always complaining about the harsh ride in it. - What should I do about replacing my front left, should I be switching tyres round ? surely it's madness to have 8mm/5mm on front and 7mm/5mm on back ? But then is it Madness I'd then probably have a Primacy / Sport combo on front / back should I switch ? I know nothing about tyres really, any help appreciated. |

I (carefully) recommend bridgestone Potenza's. If you want a softer ride, put raintires on it like uniroyal. But first, have the alignment checked and have the wheels balanced (2nd item should already have been done automatically by your tire dealer). Typically (and this is out of own experience), tires last a maximum of 40 000 km, mostly I end up somewhere between 30000 and 40000) Cheers Jeroen Last edited by Jeroen1000; 6th March 2008 at 09:34. Reason: Damn it tyres not tires:$ |

I am a bit suspicious about the alignment etc, I'll make sure it is checked, thanks. May sound a daft question, does everyone get heavier wear on their front tyres ??? In my scenario, there is a rear tyre that's done 20000 miles and is at 5mm still but on the front I'm on my 2nd set of tyres and they are already at 5mm. |

20 000 miles on one set of tyres is not all that bad. Note, the softer the tire, the softer the ride, the harder the wear. I would also put the same tyres front and rear. This is however, not absolutely needed. Ask a tyre dealr whether you have rather soft tyres. This might explain why they wear out this fast. Also they should wear out evenly!
