Valve Cap's stolen :(

Hi, some p*&k stole my valve caps yesterday, all four of them! Is this likley to cause tyre pressures to drop? The reason I ask is that next friday I will fill my Civic with my room at uni and travel 200 miles home, preferably without punture!

Any thoughts? Cheers

No it won't cause the pressures to drop, but you need to replace them so dirt and dust don't get into the valves.

Some people will steal anything, scum bags.

You can get some quite cheap at any auto accessory shop (like Halfords in the UK).

As DR says, nothing at all to do with tyre pressure - that is all controlled by the actual valve underneath, but over time dirt will collect so it is advisable to replace them as soon as you can, but it is not a disaster situation..

They've had mine off, so I bought (in a rush) some silverish ones from tescos....couldnt get them off again

So if you buy third party caps, just dont over tighten them

Halfords plastic ones are 50p, worht the money and effort, dirt and udst can cause your tyres to deflate rapidly.

Assuming you are talking the normal black plastic ones, then why ?

Who would want those ?

Yes we are talking about the black plastic ones! My theory is that the theft of valve caps is a chain; one person has them go missing, so they steal some to replace theirs, then someone else has them missing and decides to steal some etc. etc.

hope you dont carry the chain on
but seriously why would someone steal them, surely thats more effort then paying a couple of quid at an auto parts shop ? you gotta be pretty low to steal something anyway but valve caps..... thats lowwwwww

Hope no one nicks Millie's ones.

They have a little Honda logo on each one.

To assist in the theft prevention I, honestly, tighten them up with a ring spanner.

......I don't suppose that many 'valve cap nickers' carry a ring spanner with them on a blag!

I've seen lockable ones, in my local motor spares place.
Think they come with a kind of alan key.

"Lockable".. it is a standard allen key.

But I guess if you have yours screwed in place with a set screw they will take the caps off the next car.

I had mine pinched from my Accord. Nice shiny ones. Kids nick them for their bikes! Red H's will go in no time. Shame they can't be wired to the battery!!

I was walking back towards my car one day and two lads were in front. One of them knelt down by my front wheel and, as he reached towards the valve cap I shouted:

Oi, what are you up to!!

He and his mate could have won the 200m Olympics.

Be careful of the lockable valve caps, (or spannering the ordinary metal ones on really tight) because these days the little barstewards (it usually is kids for ther bikes) will just slice through the rubber valves and take them, leaving you with 4 flat tyres, believe me it happens. I must have had at least 6 sets swiped so finally went for the lockable ones and wished i had`nt. Now i stick to black plastic and have never been touched.

Still think lacing them with tetrodotoxin is the way forward, they'd never do it again guaranteed.
