rusty locking wheel nuts, a solution
i was not happy that my locking wheel nuts have gone rusty, and my dealer said i could not have any new ones on warrenty as these would also go rusty in a year or so. so ive done my own fix using red heat shrink and as you can see they look much better than corroded and rusty ones:-
1) rusty wheel nut 2) covered with heat shrink 3) looks good on the wheel |

Is it the norm for them to rust? I haven't put mine on yet as I only had the car on Monday... This said if the dealer told me I couldn't have them replaced as they would also rust, then he would be aware of my feelings without delay!!!
Cheers, Bob... |

Nice idea, but why use bright red! stands out now and looks cheap/tacky in my opinion. would look 100x better using black shrink tube.

my car is red so they look good, wouldnt look that good on a black or blue car but then you would use a colour the same as the car. im hopeing to get some red "h" centre caps to match the car also. i just done it as an idea over rusty looking locking wheel nuts.

Mine are rusty, dealer wouldn't swap them as 'they are an accessory and only come with 12 months warranty'. Am going to redo them with silver hammerite, can't look worse than the rust.

Not withstanding the wheel nuts are out of warranty, there still have to last what would be termed a reasonable amount of time. A new set should be coming your way and I would really not put up with the bull your dealer is giving you... Hope this may help you / others... Cheers, Bob... |

Gray, might be a silly question
Have you done this to the locking nuts at all 4 corners or just the rusty one? Last edited by NEEMSTAR; 24th March 2008 at 10:26. |
