Anyone had new shockers?

Hi,

at my last service (50k miles) the dealer said that both my front and back shockers were "groaning" (I was moaning about the dash creaking but have since fixed that myself using the duck-tape-front-cowling fix on this site).

It's going in tomorrow to have all 4 changed under warantee. Has anyone else had this done? Anything I should be looking for? Hard to know really as the car seems ok to me before so I'm sure it will ok after.

Thanks

hummm. not much change then. I think they are wasting their time because I was complaining about a creak. Out of interest, why the heck did they change 3 not 4. Seems very tight fisted!

oh - now that I've read your post more closely maybe you mean 1 set of front's? how many miles have you done (before the knocking started).

You've got it in one - tight fisted is an understatement.

Garage agrees that normally they would change as a pair, but because its warranty, Honda UK have to authorise all work, and would only do a single at the front.

Frankly - it makes little difference as the new units seem as bad as the old

strange isn't it - honda ok'd my 4 new ones even though I wasn't complaining and yet you only got 3. everything I've ever complained about has got approved. I reckon the garage has a lot to do with it.

there's a little (tiny) bit of corrosion on one of my penta's and they're swapping that for a new one as well.

mines getting to that age where the warranty is about to run out so I'm looking around making sure everything is done that need it. end of this year i'll be on my own and my personal car policy is not to swap until I've done 100k so that's going to be at least another year unless I get a project a long way from home.

well, I have to eat some humble pie

just got the car back. somehow they only changed both fronts and one back but I have to say the car rides much much quieter now.

I guess these things get worse a little by little over time so you don't really notice, but when it gets fixed you certainly do!

Had the springs put the right way round on mine at the 25k service (mine wa sone of the batch where the rear springs had been fitted upside down at the factory). However, this didn't fix the problem and the car went back in last week, apparently there is only 0.5" clearance on the coil spring on the rear driver side. The passenger rear side is 2" as it should be. So now I'm waiting for the spare part to come in to fix the problem!
