Price of space saver

Hello,

I have now had my Civic 1.8 Sport for 2 months (5000km) and everything is fine.
It is a little bit too noisy (road noise) but I’m working on that.
And so there is the lack of spare wheel.

I’ve read on Civinfo that you can buy a space saver kit for £90 - £120 in UK
I found the item number and went to my dealer in Sweden and asked
about the price.

The price I got was 7000SEK (£580) which is more or less a robbery.

Immediately after that, which was 6 weeks ago, I sent a letter to Honda Sweden
and asked how this is possible.
After 4 weeks no answer, I sent a reminder and after another 2 weeks no answer.

I will now ask the question via a Swedish auto magazine (Vi Bilagare) .

I also have a question to German, French and Italian Civic owners.
Do you know the price for a space saver in your countries?
I will probably travel in all three countries in July and if the price is reasonable I could buy one there.

Spare Wheel

Hi there,
I can't see just how they can justify that price, it was a good idea to contact the motoring magazine as it may force Honda Sweden to reply.

Just think if it wasn't for civinfo or the internet this information wouldn't be widely available!

Good luck with that, let us know how you get on,if the worse came to the worse I'm sure one of the UK delers on this site would post you one at a lot lower cost than your local dealer.

Good luck
Chris

On the invoice I got from a UK garage, the list price of the sparewheel, tyre and braket was in the region of £500 and then it was discounted to £100, so perhaps the person was new and didn't add the discount.

I've been asking my dealer several times about the spare, what price it is etc... He pretends I'm the first Civic customer asking for this spare wheel, he didn't even know Honda delivers a spare wheel at all! After my third call, the only thing he was able to tell me was that this would cost about 500 € (390 GBP), only for the wheel. He didn't even talk about a complete spare wheel set with bag etc. I insisted he took a further look in his catalogue but he said there wasn't anything better than this. Then he asked me if I couldn't find out what the exact spare's part number is, can you believe this!!??

Ok, i contacted a decent Honda dealer (a bit further away from where I live). On the first call, he told me immediately that he has always one spare set in stock and it costs 185 € (145 GBP). I had just to give him a call before picking it up.

Conclusion: never trust your dealer + I'm changing dealer!

Can you not buy one from the UK and get it shipped? Surely it would still save you quite a bit?

At that price, jump on that ferry over to Newcastle (nice ship, done the trip a few times on my road trips to Finland) and buy one over here...

I live in Basel and dealers in Switzerland asked for 700-1000 CHF which is a rip-off!
No discounts offered whatsoever!
I'll see if I can get more lucky in France or Germany, any ideas?
Also, my understanding is a spare tire can be bought elsewhere (tire shop, other dealers). Do you have any tips? I'm getting tired of trying to find one at a reasonable price.

The spacesaver tyre comes in a kit form in the UK. I seem to remember a previous post some time ago when someone connected to a Honda dealer stated that if all the individual parts of the kit were costed and added up the total would be far, far in excess of £100.00. Honda UK offers a discounted price on the kit, which includes the wheel, tyre, labels, bag, net, foam pads and securing nut. I think I have included everything.
