Replacement tyres already???

Hi All.
I'm new to the forum and would be interested to know the mileage people are getting from their front tyres.

I have just replaced mine with the same Bridgestone E300s that came with the car.

They only lasted 11,300 miles. Is that normal? Or is it the way I drive?

Cheers

17,500 miles sinch March 06 and I'd still say theres 3000 miles on the front ones left. That is however, 14000 of motorway miles.

Your driving may be a factor, hard cornering, heavy braking can make all the difference. Keep a check on uneven wear though, if there is then you need tracking and alignment.

That does seem very short. It could be down to a tracking or suspension problem, but I doubt it.

The most likely casue if it is even over both your front tyres, is your driving habbits, no offence intended.

As posted above, hard accelerating, cornering and braking will cause excessive wear on your car, not just your tyres!

Welcome to the forum.

The wear was even, but the passenger side was more worn. I blame the roundabouts, keep trying to make me slow down!

Drive it like you stole it! Us ageing bikers have to get our kicks from somewhere.

I was getting 20k miles from my Mitsubishi Carisma 1.8, almost as quick, didn't handle as well but was heavier. So I suppose I was expecting more than 11k even though I do drive it quite hard.

Looking at your sig Im assuming its a company car, in which case blah let them pay for it!

Cornering on the roundabouts WILL make a big difference, ask someone who used to do it often in their focus when he was single and adventerous!

I had a friend was only getting 10 - 11k out of his Golf GT TDI thingy, he eventually stopped fitting the tyres it came with and went to Continental and got nearly 20k. The guy at the tyre place suggested that VW put the original tyres on to enhance the handling of the car and were therefore a slightly softer tyre, hence the better handling but worse wear.

I swapped the fronts and rears over at about 7K and it made the car like new again. I expect I'd have need to replace them at about 13K if I hadn't.
I put it down to the diesel being heavy and the same for my right foot.

Well, I know few people who 'eat' through set of tyres in 5000km (mostly BMW drivers)!

Different cars wear cars at very different rates:

One 2 litre front wheel drive I had needed a new set of front tyres every 9-12K miles, whereas another make, driven on same routes by same driver at much the same speeds etc. had the same front set for nearly 50K miles!

The difference (I think) was that the first car had fairly basic suspension that relied on making the tyres do all the 'work', whereas the second car had much better developed suspension/geometry. The second car was a Honda!

Drive mine rather ....er enthusiatically and just swapped my tyres front to rear - rears are as good a new - the old fronts need replacing due to a tracking issue.

I would expect if I hadnt had the tracking issue and swapped them at about 6~8k - I would get nearly 20k miles

Its all down to the way you drive - not the speed - smooth in, smooth out blah blah..... (he's about to hit a chesnut tree)

It's fun to make it wheel spin if it's diesel! Only where it's safe to do so.

I make my tyres "slicks" every 15.000 km

Whatever the brand (micelin pilot, yokohama a539, toyo proxes)

no tyre is good enough for me

About 42.000 (26.000miles) km now with the first set of factory mount Michelins. Just switched front to back. I think they will last a few 1000 more miles.

17,500 miles on Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres - about 2.5 mm tread left on the fronts. They need changing !
Quite respectable considering the car has had a remap and therefore the traction control is working harder.

Almost 10K on mine and they still look like new.

As above though, mainly motorways and dual carriageways.

It's been the same on all my cars though, managed to get 30K out of tyres and brake pads.
