Brakes need replacing - under guarantee??

Hi there

I bought my civic at the end February 2008 from a Renault garage (it was the cheapest I found) and I love it so far. I've put about 2500 miles on it, and it now has 22,500 in total. As far as I can tell the brakes pads have not been replaced yet (nothing in the service manual) but I've started to get the audible indicator. So, had a look and the front pads definitely need replacing. Anyway, I just wanted to check if the garage that sold it to me had a responsibility to tell me that the brake pads would need replacing fairly soon, which they didn't?

Thanks

Nope. You may get some good will if you complain but unless the brakes were defective when you picked it up and they knew they were would you have any regress.

Brake pads are a wear item and are never covered under a warranty

Brake pads are really easy to change, you just have to know what your doing in the first place. But he's right anyone can do it.

Flip Key is avalible or was avalible on Ebay. There is a post about it with the link.

Oil have you decided to keep the Civic then?

As for the post writer, the Renault Garage should have give the car a inspection before they relseased it to you, this should have brought up worn pads, but they don't have an obligation to replace them (as you didn't buy a Renault) they also don't have to tell you as it hadn't gone through a MOT with them (I assume) I think this is the only time that they are leagally bound to advise you to issues that may arise in the near future.

Its a pain, but I think its going to be more hassle than its worth to get them to do anything about it

i'd assume that like most major manufacturers, Renault have some kind of used car programme that this car would have qualified for with the usual umpteen million point safety check etc. this should have picked the brake pads up . Would be interesting to see what the copy of the report says and if they havent got one, i'm sure the delaership DP would be interested to hear about it...

Oops! Sorry Oli (got it right this time)....I didn't have a sticker on my key back, My keys were the new ones with the code thing actually moulded into the keyback, but when you change for the Red H you actually replace the whole key back not just the H - so you would solve the white sticker issue too!
