Spare wheel
Hi
I know there is a lot of conversation about the spare wheel should i? shouldn't i? have one. well i have a long journey ahead of me as i'm planning a tour of france, italy then on to Albania(My wife is from there) and i think i want to take one, just in case. So i have 4 15" wheels left from my 07 fiesta in the shed. Will one of these wheels fit on my Honda? Many thanks Craig |

Probably not, plus the spare wheel from Honda is a 16". If you have a to have a spare wheel I would suggest that you go for the official one.

Yeah but is the honda one not about a £100? Also do new cars not normally come with a smaller wheel anyway. i know most people that have 16"'s get 15" s and some with 17" have 16" and have a limit of 50mph.

Also its become a common practice for cars not to have a spare wheel. The Honda one is 16" no matter what wheels you have as its all to do with rolling diameter. Your Honda has 5 wheel bolts, how many did the Ford have as I thought they only had 4? Actually I've just checked myself and they do only have 4 wheel bolts so NO! You can't use it! Your correct the wheel has a Limit of 50mph as they are smaller width wise and are only to be used for a short distance which they state should be usually no more than 20 miles but they will go for more than this at your own risk. You may also find with the Fiesta Alloy that there is a spacing issue Last edited by angie4m; 2nd May 2008 at 21:31. |

If you were to have a shunt, with the non Honda Spare on, when on your travels, your Insurance Company would have a Field Day with you.
Pay Up, you tight b-gger. |

It may be a smaller wheel, but the overall diameter including the tyre will be the same as your standard wheel. It is a much narrower tyre, hence the speed restriction as handling will be compromised at higher speeds.

And you got your answer and although you might not have been aware that it was the same size spare for all wheels (even my 19's) and it was to do with the rollind diameter you should have been aware that you have 5 bolts on your Civic Wheels and only 4 on you Ford Alloys and that you couldn't use them.
I've never owned a Ford but knew it had 4 wheel bolts hence you couldn't use it |

Well you never said that! You make it sound like you already have the car as you are planning a long journey (but we've educated you in the process)
As you don't have it are you buying from a dealers? If so then I would be cheeky and ask for them to chuck one in as a freebie and if they won't then ask for a wee discount on it. It doesn't hurt to try |

Thanks jack the lad suppose its not that bad! Just don't want to be stuck in a foreign country with a blown out tyre or a damaged side wall. Won't have a clue where the nearest garage may be.

I would be scared to do that for two reasons: 1) The tyre is already 7 years old, I know it is in the boot, but rubber must degrade sometime. So if you keep your car for 4 years, it will be 11 years old by then. The are at a higher pressure because they are thinner. 2) Your insurance co may still disagree that it is suitable. It was hard enough for me to buy a spare in the first place (search for my rants about space savers!!) so at least get the correct one. This is a safety item after all...... |

.....
Alan,
The spare I have is as new. Since it was stored one a dark place I have a Simca 1000 also it's from 1972 it has it's original spare with original unused spare tyre.... that's 36 years old.... for that tyre I agree probably better not to use it anymore but for my Civic spare I don't worry. As for insurance.... probably works different in Holland never heard anyone talk about that issue here. Arno |
