ANNOYED- anybody replaced 19" tyres yet?
My car has just been in for warranty work and has come out with a gouge in the side wall of a tyre! Unfortunately I didn't notice until I got home. The dealer is currently looking into it but I'm not holding my breath!
So my question is this. Has anybody replaced the tyres on their rage wheels? If so what did you go for? I have found all the tyres I think are available in this size (225/35/19). I would apprciate any opinions you have on these tyres, in particular dry grip, wet performace and wear. The price is not that important, I would rather have a good tyre. Avon ZZ3 £115 Toyo Prozy T1-R £148 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 £149 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical £158 Yoko S.drive £159 Conti Sport Contact 3 £162 Yoko Parada Spec 2 £170 Yoko Advan Sport £170 (original tyres) Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A £172 Pirelli P Zero Rosso £177 Pirelli P Zero Nero £183 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 £208 |

Cheers for the reply. I forgot to mention all those prices include fitting.
I've heard the grip is good but are the toyos any good on wear? My dealer has just got back to me and they're not paying for the tyre. Instead they offered £50 off my next 2 services as a goodwill gesture. Really useful as I bought the 5 yr servicing pack with the car!!! Last edited by 19 milano; 16th May 2008 at 15:49. |

Mrs Stella, is happy to bits driving her new Ka. She just got a new kitchen and I've just completed the garden for her. Be under no misunderstanding.... if Mrs Stella says it won't happen.... it doesn't.

I will only ever use mine on a road and therefore grip and wear are the most important things. Do tyres act differently on a track or is it a good guide to how well they last/perform on road? |

Tyre are subjected to a different kind of abuse whilst on the track. Tyres that are suitable for track are certainly not the best for the roads. Look at Toyo R888's road legal slicks, yet a smidging of rain and you would be like Bambi on Ice. Additionally, tyre pressures are different whilst on the track. A proven tyre on the track will test its grip levels and lend themselves to performance ability claims. Longevity of tyres are down to compound, the harder the compound the longer the tyre lasts, but as a trade off against grip, as grip is generated from soft compound. Tyre manufactures have to strike a fair balance between both, but cater for the masses by producing different compound variants of each tyre. IE Toyo Proxis TR1, TS1, 4's. Its then down to the consumer to select the tyre that suits their driving need.

cheers guys.
However I have found what I think are good prices for tyres. What I really need is your opinions on the tyres so I can decide which brand/model to go for next. |

Very very happy with my Conti Sport Contact 3s (in 225/45R17 guise). Dry and wet grip (once broken in) is excellent, the tyres are very progressive and tracking is superb. Wear rate seems really excellent so far - I've only lost 0.5mm of rubber on the fronts over 1500 miles of reasonably hard driving in my type-s, so this bodes well for getting close to 20,000 miles.
