Bump Stops

I have a knock like a loose exhaust coming from the back of my 1.8 Civic.
I mentioned this at the 1st service and was told to bring it back and they would fit bump stops to the rear suspension.
Just got it back....same knock.... Had a look under car at the rear shocks and cant see any new additions to the set up.
Where would bump stops be fitted

you`ll see the bump stops that your dealer is refering to are fitted on the front suspension struts within the coil spring, the new ones should be identified by there white colour, just have a quick look under the wheelarch near the top of the front spring, the origanal bump stops on the front struts have been manufactured wrong & are too small so tend to fall out after a period of driving resulting in a knocking/thumping noise from the suspension,so these get replaced with a modified part which is designed slightly bigger so as not to fall out.im sure they looked at your car & this was a fairly obvious problem associated with your complaint about a noise from the suspension !

Bump Stops

Thanks for the reply. Are there similar bump stops on the rear suspension. The noise seems to be coming from the rear of the car.

it looks like they have just replaced the one on the offside of your car as you have identified it by its white colour, from what ive seen on the rear of 06 civics there are no conventional type bump stops fitted,i see numerous cars come in at work with the same complaint of a knocking noise from the rear, normally when reversing first thing in the morning, apart from all the usual checks of springs fitted wrong way up,faulty shockers, exhaust rubbers with incorrecrt clearance you can never see anything obviously wrong but that said although people complain about the noise from the rear you invariably find the front bump stops adrift from there mounts , so these need to get sorted first.

I guess unless Honda has changed the colour coding this can't be right.
Anyway, on mine the faulty ones were yellow and the OK replacements are white (BTW they said the whole struts were replaced on mine)

My apologies civic fan/hondatech On checking again, this time using a torch, the nearside stop is yellow. Better get my colour vision checked out. Will go back to dealer tomorrow and see just what has been done.
Thanks once again for the info.

Have you tried driving without your parcel shelf fitted ? That's how I identified my rear knocking noise before I did this I was sure that it was something to do with the suspension.
