New Type-S Crashy Suspension

Hi All,

Picked my 08 Type-S up on Weds and put some miles on over the weekend. One thing I've noticed is crashy suspension. By this I mean going over a speed table I took at the same speed as my previous car (Toyota Corolla T Sport) ~20mph and it seems to be scraping/bottoming out/hitting the bump stops.

Has anyone else had this problem? Are they prone to it or is it a trip to the dealer??

Cheers

My 07 goes over speed bumps etc no problem, if there is one on a quiet road perhaps pull up to it and have a look under the car to see if it looks like it will clear.

One thing I will say, speed bumps are there to make you slow down....I very rarely go over them at anything over 10mph.

I take speed humps at around the limit, (they are there to slow you to the limit surely not well below it), most of them don't worry my S at all, except a couple of very tall ones.

There are two flaps in front of the front wheels, underneath the front bumper and it is probably these that you are hearing scraping on the speed humps.

There is one slightly taller speed hump in my work car park, which I need to slow right down for, otherwise these flaps catch on it.

So, if there are particular roads you drive along regularly which cause the scraping, then the solution is to slow down.

Thanks for the replies so far!

Before we say anything else; Speed has a time and place - the race track.

The road in question is a 30 and I used to be able to comftably go over this mini-table at 20 ish in my previous car; I will check the flaps as suggested earlier in the post to see if there is any scrape marks on them.

Cheers

The Type S has less ground clearance than ordinary cars (I found), but the scraping, as pjr says, is most likely the two flexible flaps in front of the front wheels. Don't worry about it --they can take it.

Sometimes that may work. But every here and there they seem to have had way too much asphalt in the trucks when building the roads
