Question Replacement Brake Pads

Just had my dealer ring me and advise that the beake pads are 90% and 80% worn, front/back.

Anybody any thoughts on different manufacturer of pads? I was considering EBC Green pads.

Cheers

No Need pads and disks are relatively easy to replace yourself - should take no longer than 30 mins each corner - there is a guide somewhere that I read recently

Greenstuff pads are great! Used on a Few track cars, last longer and they don't create as much dust as standard pads do which is also a good result

As for replacing them as NoNumpty says Pads and Brakes are a doddle (when you know what your doing) but we all ave to start and learn somwehere

I have been thinking of getting redstuff pads when I next change. They should give better performance and also solve the brake dust problem on the rear wheels.

EBC claim the Redstuff pads have an even lower brake dust rating (see link), They also say it is easier to clean the dust off

Good idea Munro, the standard CTR wheels are such a pain to clean, anything that helps would be great.

I also hear that you need to replace the discs if you use EBD brake pads..
As they are harder and will wear out your discs

In The Q and A section on the EBC site they recommend replacing disks if they are worn:
" 12. Do I need to turn my rotors or fit new rotors when I buy/fit EBC Pads?
It is a complete waste of money to fit new pads if your rotors are badly scored or hollowed. It is also dangerous and can cause a total loss of brake. Check rotor surface condition with a straight edge and if there is more than 0.5mm or 0.020 inches (twenty thousandths) of hollow the rotors must be turned or replaced. This can be done by any brake centre or most machine shops. If you DO NOT turn or replace the rotors you will have low efficiency/dangerous brakes for the first 1000 or more miles and you will tramline your pads and damage them. This is a safety issue and we strongly recommend having a professional mechanic advise if you are not capable of measuring this yourself. With brakes the motto is “Any doubts … see a mechanic”.
EBC can supply new rotors in plain finish OEM style at very competitive prices or sport slotted rotors of two versions. Sport rotors help braking, reduce fade and maintain parallel pad wear throughout the pads life."

Got Green Stuff pads on my Type S at the moment.

I know nowt about changing stuff like that so let the old man do it one Saturday when he was bored! Took an hour tops to do both fronts & according to him it was a doddle.

Not noticed any real difference between these & the original pads it had on to be honest so happy enough with them. Wasn't drawn in by the fact they're Green Stuff - just didn't want to fork out hundred & odd quid to let Honda do it & these were the first set I spotted online.

Definitely no issues with them though.

mine only has 20% wear according to the service sheet but the brake dust is driving me up the wall. polished and waxed the alloys then went for 20 miles driving and the wheels were covered in a black film.

i just want to get rid of them!

if there is a pad that produces half the dust i would be so happy!

Well I have just ordered replacement pads from EBC, green stuff for the front and EBC standard for the rear.
I spoke to EBC and they said unless I did lots of track day or lots of high speed road work with lots of hard braking, there was not a great deal to choose between standard rears and Green stuff rears. They reckon the standard rear pads would be better than Honda OE anyway.

I'll let you know when I ahve fitted them and what difference they make.

Please do, I was tempted with changing them and will probably get my local garage to change them for me, I'll also probably buy them and keep them ready for when I need them

They say the reason to change the discs is thatn OEM ones groove the discs quite badly, and therefore these grooves will affect your greenstuff pads and groove them....???

Can you fit any of the discs to the Type S as I like the drilled/grooved ones and they arn't massively more expensive.

EBC say that you only need to change the disc's if they are deeply groved. Mine are pretty evenly worn and well within limits.
