removing brake dust

Does anyone know of a way to remove hardened brake dust from alloy wheels without damaging the paintwork underneath?
My garage is full of chemicals from my local auto supplies, all of them useless

'Wonder Wheels'
Use a tooth brush.
You might have to do it a few times.
(Take them off to do them)
If it still wont shift, its a refurb job
You should never have allowed it..
Having nice wheels is all about primary care:
A good wheel sealer (2-3 coats)
Regular weekly washes or more in the winter
Ps. Hope I dont sound patronising.
Good luck

I use Armorall whleel cleaner which if perfect for the face cleening of the wheels. On the back site i have to use a wheel brush which i do not have at the moment, but the front site cleans only with that chemical and a pressure washer.

Detailing clay works a treat. Once you have your wheels clean then robbo51 is spot on - use multiple coats of a wheel sealer and keep them clean!
