Brake dust on rear wheels
Hi all
Having now completed 2000 miles in my EX and after a few cleans, I have noticed that is is much more difficult to removed the brake dust from the rear wheel. The fronts wheels just wife clean but the dust is really sticking to the rear wheels. I am guessing that this is due to a different pad material on the rear brakes. Has anyone else come across this? |

Its due to the VSA being over sensitive and applying the rear brakes when it doesn't need to. Honda should reprogramme the VSA, but everybody seems to be just putting up with it at the moment.
Maybe we should all be petitioning Honda to do something, like with the stone chips ? The rear wheel brake dust is very corrosive, so it is well worth cleaning your wheels regularly and protecting them with something like Poorboys wheel sealant. |

EBC has been taken over by another company which have chaged the composition of the pads to make them disk friendly. they have to be compared to oem pads for wear etc to be saleable.

Thats the one thing that lets my car down is the state of the alloys due to brake dust. I washed on sat and by monday there is brakedust all over. The car its self is gleaming, just the wheels not!! Poorboys just makes it easier to clean off. I Just give up!!

Me too , the cars only covered 1100 miles. On current and previous cars I have never known this. Usally this happens on the front wheels. I have now coated my alloys with Rim Wax and this has certainly helped.

hmm.. maybe thats why the dealer told me to drive with then vsa switched off..
I have also noticed the huge amount of brakedust.. but I think it is both front and rear wheels that sufferes the problem.. I´m just giving them a good clean every now and then.. its almost time to switch tyres between front/rear so when the wheels are off i will give them a good wash and polish.. and maybe get the tiny scratch fixed on the right front alloy.. |

Rich11,
Did you have a look at that link on post #11? How does you handbrake feel? Is there any slack? Can you jack the car up evenly at the back and check for binding? |

I am told that the excessive rear brake pad wear (sometimes shown up by excessive rear wheel dust) is due to the possible over tightening of the handbrake cable. Which kind of makes sense.
We can certainly have a look to see if we can see anything obvious, but then again it may not be obvious, nor indeed the cause. |
