Run-Flats

This weeks Auto Express has a feature on Run-Flat tyres.

Tested tyres are:

Bridgestone Turanza ER300 RFT (RunFlat Tyres)
Continental PremiumContact SSR Self Supporting Runflat)
Michelin Primacy HP ZP (Zero Pressure)

Results were a % relative to the winning Bridgestone rubber.

Overall Bridgestone scored 100%, Continental 99.9% and Michelin 98%.

Interior noise: Best Continental, 2nd Michelin, 3rd Bidgestone.
Wet cornering: Best Bridgestone, 2nd Continental, 3rd Michelin.
Wet braking: Best Continental, 2nd Michelin, 3rd Bridgestone.
Dry braking: Beat Continental, 2nd Michelin, 3rd Bridgestone
Wet handling: Best Continental, 2nd Bridgestone, 3rd Michelin.
Dry handling: Best Continental, 2nd Bridgestone, 3rd Michelin.
Economy (rolling resistance): Best:Bridgestone, 2nd Michelin, 3rd Continental.

now what would have been good was if they had included a non-run flat version from each of the 3 manufacturers...

on a japanese car? BRIDGESTONE not a question!

I personally prefer only Bridgestone and Yokohama, they have also very good results at tyre tests!

how can the bridgestones get %100 when they were last 3 times and only won2 test the continental won more test so should they have betten the bridgestones ?????

They used Bridgestone as the benchmark giving them 100.0 . On wet braking Bridgestone scored the 100.0, but Continental scored 103.8 and Michelin 102.7 . Thus making Continental 1st with Michelin in 2nd place and Bridgestone in 3rd.

Interestingly there are other manufacturers that also make run flats but weren't included. They are Goodyear, Dunlop and Pirelli, while Kumho has just entered the replacement market.

runflats are desirable in some circs but not all must treat with respect and caution.
