Spare wheel

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before -- there's almost too much info on the site to take in. I pick up my new Civic on Wednesday and while I was going through the grilling from the sales manager trying to flog me GAP insurance/paint protector/4th year warranty (of course Honda's are sooo reliable, but.....)/tyre insurance I raised the question of ordering a spare wheel. He tried to suggest that there was no way of fixing it in the well under the boot floor so it would rattle around -- has anyone found this a problem? Sounded a bit lame to me. Also, should you get a jack as standard, or is that another extra cost option? - not much point having the wheel if I can't change it.

One more question -- are floor mats standard on Civics? I'm buying a pre-reg and I did get to take a look at it, but there didn't seem to be any in place.

Floor Mats -- Not standard . About £50 - £60, but make them an offer. Got mine for £30.
Spacesaver wheel comes with full fixing kit, including cargo net and wheel bag. Make them an offer. Got mine for £80.
You do get a jack and gunk for tyre repair. Give that the elbow, if you get a spacesaver.

Thanks - am I right in thinking a tank of petrol's included in the delivery charge (maybe as its pre-reg they'll try to get out of that).

You will have to push your luck on that one danram.
Strictly speaking, as you have a date for picking your car up, - The deal is done.

The spare bolts to the floor same as in any other Honda, the hole is covered by carpet and is plugged but easily modified to take a bolt (supplied with the kit).
Probably a sales ploy to sell the Tyre Ins

They are taking the piss - or they know nothing. When you buy the spare, they CHARGE you for fitting the bloody thing! How can they not know that it fits in the boot well!!! Actually, I was told by Honda that if they didn't fit it for me it could invalidate a warranty issue if there was future damage deemed to be caused by the tyre sitting loosely in the well!!

Well, it was the sales manager -- who was totally focussed on flogging the optional insurance policies. Hopefully the parts/service people would be a bit more clued up.

Don't do everything that they tell you!

You'll need that bit to use the other bit!

Spare tyre

Hi DANRAM,

Tell that sales guy that he's an idiot! I purchased my 06 Sport Diesel in Italy and as a surprise, it did not come with the spare either but that stupid repair kit & pump (pump is useful)! I asked the dealer about it and he told me that the Spare tyre kit, included spare tire, rim, pieces to attach to the floor under the panel in the boot & cargo netting for about €150.

It took about a week, very nervous week at that as Italy is not nice to tyres, and I installed it in ten minutes as it came in boxes with instructions. No, it doesn't void any warranties either as once you tighten the thing down it's not going anywhere.

So, don't buy that spare ins, go to the parts counter and ask for the spare tyre kit.
