A hero? Careful you don't over-inflate his ego!

It is good to see people are bothering to contact their insurance companies about modifications, I am supprised to see your premium go up so mucg for a set of 16"s. I would have thought they would have just said "thanks for letting us know, bye". Shocking!

haha!
Well it's nice to keep this place good and tidy; was completely my fault for posting in the wrong place! Just glad I didn't get banned for it or something, that would have been harsh!

To be honest I really would have not known/thought about contacting my insurance company if it wasn't for Parky on this thread;
Mafia Honda Civic 1.4, "PIMPED" ...

Obviously though I want to stay legal and clean, it'd be stupid not too!

You've asked this to be moved to the recycle bin, but it might serve as a useful reminder to inform insurance companies when we make changes.

I hope you sticker owners have informed your insurance vendors, btw, as it is classed as "Modification - Decals".

bg - Gav put the top post in a thread about tyre prices, then realised he was talking about wheel prices, so reported himself. I moved it here, into a thread of it's own.

Can't believe I've caused so much trouble on one thread, sorry guys

You have also reminded me that I still haven't ordered by sticker yet, I'm so bad....will get it done now!

I think that price is a liberty. I was only quoted £100 for having my Golf Superchipped. I am guessing that the age is a major reason.

Incidently, when I get my EX with leather and roof, are they likely to up my premium for that? Has anyone tried? I am in my (very) late 30's so would hope a thankyou for letting us know would be the reply.

I am inclined to agree; I am 24 and obviously getting Alloy Wheels would be seen as an insurance risk as that means I'm sporty and am going to speed everywhere!

I'm 25 in 2 months but really have to wait until May to get my new price to get my 1years NCB too. Then my price should plummit!

And yes, I've only been driving for a year!

When I got mine, I told them at the 'any modifications?' bit that I had rear parking sensors, to which the lady replied 'factory fit items don't count'. According to that conversations, it shouldn't matter, it is only things that are 3rd party aftermarket things. Not sure if this is correct, though.

I might double check that.
Oh golly I haven't informed about the rear parking sensors! I should do that too then...

I don't know if changing the bulbs will count?
I might just go with a list changing the speakers can't make a difference too can they? It's not exactly a big system.

Dealer/official fit stuff is fine, as the car can be specified on delivery with that kit. Also, adding things like aftermarket speakers should again SHOULD be okay. I think if you look at the definitions theyre mainly for air filters/chipping/3rd party alloys et al

Oh, and the chances of an insurer putting up a premium for the fitting of reversing sensors is ZERO! Think about it!

And, as a final point, heavily modified cars can sometimes benefit from REDUCED insurance! This is because it is quite clear to the specialist insurer that the owner will want to protect their investment more than someone who just has a little runabout.

Even though they're dealer fit; as they weren't purchased with the car they'll be extra; if they were fitted when I purchased the car the insurance would be the same price! I could have probably gotten away with it since my reciepts and stuff have no details of what wheels were on the car; but now I've informed them I can't. Ah well, stick with Steelies for a bit I guess!

Where insurance companies are concerned get everything in writing----NEVER accept the word of the telephone walla!! They want your money and will get as much out of you as they can and if they can wriggle off the hook they will, leaving you high and dry!! Stuff like "We had our fingers crossed" Well not quite but you get my point?
