the big thing we noticed on tyres with the mr2 was that tyres like the re04's had stiff tyre walls, made for good feedback when driving, but did tend to tramline. good dry hold but quick breakaway.
the toyo proxies were a good all round tyre but had soft tyre walls, which led to more tyre roll, so the car had more lean in the corners, but once you got used to it, wasn't to bad. no tramline, good hold wet and dry, progressive breakaway. eagle f1 were similar to the toyo's but had a very soft tyre wall, i didn't like them on the mr2, or on the 306 gti6, they seemed more prone to puncturing. also they don't stay in their optimum performance zone as long as the toyo's. i.e. when you wear them in they are a bit slidy, but then have good grip, but this wears off by about 10,000 miles. the toyo's seemed to keep the samehold all the way through to about 20,000 miles. hankook tyres got a good review with some drivers. also noticed alot of these new korean tyres, that have funky tread patterns. and cheap prices, but i just don't have the balls to try them. (but then thats how toyo started) i'm finding this quiet interesting, finding what will the best for the civ |

why have a debate about Subaru's and high performance cars when the Civic is in the original question???
Why have a picture of a TT on a CIVIC web site |

The old primacy are crap, however the new asymmetric ones which are fitted to new Civics are excellent. One of the best tyres I've had the good fortune to drive on.
Beware slating your tyres at the moment though the roads are terrible, full of salt, grease and other muck. If it wasn't for the DSC on my MX5 I would be driving sideways on most corners. I'm considering giving a set of Nokian NRY a try, they're supposed to be a high performance tyre suitable for all temperatures (not a snow tyre). Although I might end up with another set of michelins but a more sporty model. |

Personally I have to agree with ctrdaveg, it does say "Civ" in the title and therefore, any experiences with such and such a tyre on their Scooby, Evo, Bentley Continental, HGV Lorry, Tractor etc. etc. aren't relevant. You could put the same tyre brand on two different vehicles and they "could" behave in a different manner. The only comparisons that are relevant (in my opinion) are experiences with front wheel drive hatchbacks with similar power output. |

You're looking at 4 wheel drive or rear wheel drive compared to front wheel drive, 300 bhp compared to 138 bhp, different handling characteristics, chassis etc. etc. etc. Therefore a tyre that performs well on one vehicle may be considered mediocre on another. I've got Michelin Pilot Sports on my push bike. Last edited by ciderman4; 14th February 2008 at 23:42. |

Given that so few people have posted about other brands on their Civic, perhaps due to most cars being so new as not to have had new tyres, perhaps the point people are making is that if the tyre can cope well on a high performance car then its hardly going to be pushed on a Civic. That to me would seem a valid point, hardly irrelevant.
You could dismiss most comparisons on the basis that they are 'not the same' - new tyres compared with old, tyres fitted in winter compared to summer. Given that this subject is so subjective anyway any comparison could be valid. Last edited by Vidal Buffoon; 15th February 2008 at 06:19. |

What I can say is I have experienced Pilot Primacys on other cars and they didn't seem to grip, but the new model primacys which are on my 57 Civic EX are excellent, it takes a lot to get them to slip, and when they do is a gradual break away.

I have replaced the Bridgestones that came on my 16" wheels with Premacy HP's (not the Pilot Premacys) and I feel there is more grip (slides less in corners) even on dry roads, but there is a little less steering feel. However the less feel could be due to more tread. |
