Fine here. It is a bit close to your body, but quite managable.

My handbrake seems ok.

It has far less movement than my previous Civic.

......and the car is for driving not for parking.

There are also some posts earlier on about handbrakes not behaving themselves properly.... no probs with mine tho'.

I agree the car is for driving, not for parking but whilst looking at the new Lego kit I thought It would be a good idea to stop it running away!

Not really, though I find it travels less than the handbrake on my previous cars and I must remember to go easy on it.

I think it is a little too close to the driver, plus I'm not sure if its meant to move from side to side a little when released, as mine does.

The dealer will tighten your loose handbrake if you ask him.

No problems here. im sure you guys just go and sit in your car and LOOK for things that are wrong with it. the handbrake is probably in the same place as his last car but because it is the new civic everyone tries to find something else wrong with it!!! XXXX rant over lol

When I came off the test drive, first thing I said was "Handbrake is too close to my leg" Not just me then..

tbh though, after that initial run, I've never considered it again. It's a handbrake, it works! (albeit it looks like a flaccid penis)

On my first test drive I also thought the handbrake was far too close, that together with the armrest both sides made me feel quite claustrophobic, but know I dont give it a second thought!!

My Civic's handbrake is fine and in a great position.

You should try using the handbrake in a Focus. Ford obviously couldn't be bothered to move it from the LHD versions and it is next to passenger seat. Not exactly ergonomic.

Works very well for me. Having i-shift, and sitting in traffic jams every day, I find it much easier to pull the handbrake on gently rather than keeping my foot on the footbrake. As you come to a halt, if either footbrake or handbrake is on, the clutch disconnects completely, and revs go down to tickover. Release the brake, and revs go up and it starts to creep forward, before you touch the accelerator. Pretty clever software!

Handbrake position is close to the leg but that's fine by me. It's just the little gremlin in there who decides to let it drop by an inch occasionally which bugs me...
