Faulty caliper - a guarantee issue?

Hi all,
need your help and some advice. On my beloved Civ I have a problem with the right-hand side rear break. Obviously the caliper (till now for an unknown reason) didn't open up again after breaking like it should have - so, the pads were pressed to the discs all the time. Now the pads are worn down completely and menwhile the disc shows strong wrinkles, what means, that the pads and discs have to be changed.

My car has now more than 49.000 km on the clock but is less than 2 years old. So on the one hand it's still during the normal Honda guarantee, but I was told that Honda only accepts these issues under guarantee as long as the cars dont' have run more than 30.000 km - if they pas the 30tkm than it's up to Honda to decide whether or not.

So my question now is, if someone of you
a) had the same problem and
b) got it sorted under guarantee?

Also I know that the guarantee rules of HUK might be different from those here in Germany but I'd still like to hear your answers and recommendations - they are much appreciate!

The mileage limit has no bearing until the limit stated on the warranty - 90k miles or whatever that equates to in kms.

Just deal with the dealership as normal, and if you still have problems, contact your national Honda office - though I doubt you would have many problems if they can prove the fault.

The brake caliper would certainly come under the overall warranty ...

But, the disc and pads - being "consumables" (wear and tear items) - would most likely have a limited warranty (if any at all) from new ...

However, if it is the defective caliper that has 'ruined' the disc and pads, then I'd say that you had a very good case, so press on ! ...

Thanks for your answers. Have been at a dealer at friday and he told me, no chance because my car has run more than 30tkm and it didn't even interested him that's the caliper caused the whole, but tried to blame me.

Will go to a different dealer tomorrow morning and try my luck. In my opinion it really should be under warranty, because the damage is caused by the caliper, but who knows, what they make of it.

sounds to me like the brake pads have siezed in the carrier. this can happen to any car but pads and discs being consumeables i doubt a repair will be carried out under warrentie. i doubt the caliper is faulty, i havnt see one yet anyway. my suggestion is check to see how tight your handbrake is, if it has been adjusted too tight you will get a simmilar problem.

Had this happen to mine twice now. Bought the car and 6 months down the line my pads were down to the mental and damaged by discs. They told me it was the caliper that was at fault and replaced both back pads, discs and calipers. However another 6 months down the line its happened again and this time they have to get it approved by Honda before they can replace them under warranty again. Watch this space however there is no way its wear and tear in my issue as brand new ones put on 6 months ago.

Sticking calipers is one of the many 'characteristics' (HUK terminology) the Civic has.
