Stealers by Name-Stealers by Nature...TYRES

I am severly pi**ed off today with my bloody dealer.

I had arranged to go and check out my car prior to collection next Thursday and my god I'm so glad I did.

Gave the car the once over and it all looks superb - then gave the STORM alloys the once over to check for scuffs etc and check out the tyre brand.

Lo and behold what brand of tyre was on the car I hear you ask????

It was "KINGSTAR"!!!! "KINGSTAR?" I hear you say. Yes I have never heard of them either!! Went mad at the dealer and told him that this was not acceptable and I will not be picking the car up while these tyres were on the wheels. He tried to insist these were a good brand and these were supplied by Honda.

I don't think so I said, I think you'll find its usually Bridgestone or Yokohama's on the cars. Took him over to another Civic and pointed it out that it had Bridgestaones on the 4 corners. He said he would check this out Monday and get back to me. I said don't worry I will be doing my own research.

Well go home in one hell of a mood and typed the name into google - low and behold as already known - Kingstar is a Budget tyre brand (made by Hankook). Got straight on to the phone and reiterated again that this was not acceptable as I am buying what I consider to be a premium product and that I require a premium tyre - and I will not be paying the balance of the car or collecting it until this is done!.

Its just so annoying that I have to wait till Monday to get this sorted, and being the type of person who expects the worst I am expecting a slanging match!!

Spleen vented - thank you for your attention and feedback!!!

Best wishes

I make you right! When you order upgraded alloy's, it's normally the dealer that fits them, as the car is delivered to the dealer from the factory with the standard wheels and tyres! They have cut corners to try and make some more profit!

I did say to him that its seems he's trying to claw back a few quid at the last minute - oh no he said I wouldn't do that - not half the wouldn't!

I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

that is not on by the dealer. Stick to your guns and dont even think about handing over the money until you have decent tyres on there.

No that is not on - Name and shame the dealer
Considering the SE 16" wheels come with Bridgestones
I presume the ES has the same on its std wheels
( I cannot get over just how bad some dealers are we have had 9 + years of Honda ownership two dealers and nothing but the highest service)

i would contact honda uk, then tell the dealer that you will accept them tyres...watch his face light up with joy....then say im not payin for the wheels.....so whats it gona be? good tyres and i pay for the wheels or crap tyres and i get the wheels for free?? then ask him if honda know what there up to, you may even get the whole wheel deal and good tyres for free.

i think most people who upgrade to the bigger wheels do not know they are done by the dealer and that they fit the tyres. for the price you pay the dealer should give the customer the choice of tyre they would like, not just fit any old crap.

I'll reserve jugdment on the dealer until Monday and then maybe name and shame.

I have the number and email of the Director of Sales and Marketing for Honda Ireland and they already know I have used him to stir the pot already about how delayed my order has been.

I'm just wondering really how many people check what brand of tires have been fitted - a good few may already have been ripped off! Worst comes to the worst, the bankers draft will be docked by the value of the true cost of the correct tyres!

Thanks for this. I think I can rest my case here! Their def trying to tuck me up at the last minute. If I had drove away next Thursday without noticing It would of been tough luck I guess.

I doubt even the bargain priced Korean car companies would expect you to buy a cheap new car with bugdet wheels also. IMO these should only be fitted to old bangers who arn't worth spending decent money on.

I am so prepared for any potential ******** tomorrow, this dealer will be shot straight out of the water!!

At the moment, the 16" fitments are Bridgestone ER300 and Michelin (about 50/50), while 17" are purely Michelin (Pilot Sport or Primacy?). The 18" fitment on the Type-R are 100% Bridgestone.

I can't believe that the dealer tried to get away with selling you Kingstar, which most people would only consider on a 10 year old + car. And the fact that it's Hankook's second brand is even more galling, especially as Hankook are being factory-fitted on Ford and VW (mostly because of price).

I like Gray52's idea of turning this to your advantage, and making sure the dealer doesn't do this sort of dodgy dealing again.

I got pilot sports on my 18" Storms fitted at POS to my Type-S. Certainly sounds like your dealer is trying to pull a fast one.

RESULT!!!!

Just rang dealer to check up on him - he has confirmed they are replacing the budget brand with Bridgestones. (cheapest bridgestones he could get away with I bet but I'm now happier)

Lucky he did as I have had a vomiting bug since yesterday and am just in the right mood to bite someones head off if they try and act up!

Roll on Thursday for collection!

Good !

But you should write the letter to Honda CS telling them what happend. It's bad for theyr name to have such dealer selling Honda cars. If they put second brand Tyres on cars to save some £ what did they put for oil during servicing ? Did they also put genuine honda spare parts during repairs ?

Thats a very good point - I hadn't thought of that at servicing time. I will most likely use the dealer a bit closer to home. (I only have a choice of 2)

These guys gave the cheapest price but am still annoyed at quality of service.
