Front back or replace

Hi after my saga on Friday of a bolt in my 3 week old front tyre (see earlier much longer thread) I am concerned that my 2 front tyres are no longer the same. Before I start please understand that I admit to knowing nothing about tyres, kwik fit said they were putting the same tyre on as the one coming off but it isn't. Don't get me wrong it is a good tyre, Michelin pilot sport and the other side is also a Michelin but not a sport.

My questions are.

Does it matter that my 2 front tyres no longer identically match?

Would it be better if the new tyre was swapped with the one at the rear so the fronts match?

Should I go back to Kwik fit and kick off, which will probably do me no good at all?

These may be daft questions, it is just that my 3 week old car feels tarnished as mad as that sounds. It is probably my imagination as I am looking for a fault but the car seems to pull more to the left than it did before and the new tyre is on the left. I have checked the tyre pressures.

Guess I am just after some reassurance..

I'd stick the current rear tyres on the front and vice versa. Might help with the balance, but I'm not an expert.

With my last car, I had to buy two new tyres in an 18 month period (wear and tear) the tyre shop swapped all my tyres around to get the best wear, I had two different makes, cant remember what went where but I had no problems at all with the way the car drove - don't know if that helps at all!

It is not allowed to have different tyres structure (Ex Radial and banded tyres) on the same axle. But it is not a problem to have two different manufacturer tyres on the same axle. You have to look after the milage of your tyres (the depth of the structure).

And you should always have the best tyres at the back (ask to the specialist why) to have the best handling (?)

If Kwik Fit said they'd fitted the same tyre, then they should have fitted the same. You may notice handling changes because of the different tyres, as the patterns would have different performance characteristics (even in the same brand).

As i-noel says, it is not against the law to have 2 or 4 different patterns on your car, as long as they are the same size.

In general, the best thing to do is put new tyres on the rear, and bring the rears to the front. This is basically so you don't get caught out by the new tyres gripping more on the front. But as you've only had the car for 3 weeks, there is probably no need to swap them about.

Hopes this all makes sense!
