Brakes Should the wheel rotate freely when car in neutral? - Civinfo

Should the wheel rotate freely when car in neutral?

If I put my car on axle stands and put car in neutral and spin the front wheel, should it revolve a few times before coming to a stop as I have noticed the wheel is hard to turn. There is a rubbing noise. The wheel does not rotate freely.

I have just painted the calipers so I cleaned and copper greased the runners and filed the edges of the pads.

I can move the pads back and forth with little effort.

If my fronts are binding how do I make sure my front calipers are not siezed?

Any ideas?

Dont forget you are turning the driveshafts/diff/gearbox so there is a lot more resistance in the front than the rear.
You wont be able to spin it as such.
Resistance should be the same on both sides

Does the brake rub get louder and quieter or keep pretty much the same volume ?

I recently posted basically the same question, Mine doesnt 'spin freely' after spinning at all...

As relic says you are turning the wheel, the brake disc which may rub a bit on the pads and the drive shaft which is connected directly to the gearbox. So yes you will certainly feel resistance and its unlikely you will be able to spin it. So nothing to worry about.
