Update No2.
Dealer is going to replace the NSF shock absorber, and do an alignment afterwards. Will see what affect this has on the car. Should sort out the bump stop coming loose every five minutes. |

Had my NSF shock absrober replaced yesterday.
Wow what a difference it has made, the steerin feels tighter and more responsive, and the horrible knocking noise has gone at last. I just hope they did an alignment afterwards as promised. |

Hi All
I phoned Fish Brothers (Honda Swindon) to see if the adhesive apllied to Slowhand's car has worked and if this is now the official fix. Unfortunately the adhesive has not worked and this not the official fix. He said that Honda are presently working on it and there will be a bulletin sent to dealers as to what the official fix is. Not good I know, but at least there are trying to do something about it. |

Hi Slowhand
I'm just reiterating what they told me. It's great to know that the bumpstops are fine. Pikkumies has said on another thread that his clonk noise has stopped after 1,600 miles. So I'm not sure what to do. I think i'll leave it for the moment. |

Got my Civic at 11 months old with 12,000 miles on 3 months ago.
It has been back every month and the dealer has had to refit the bump stop on the NSF 3 times. The near side goes "CLUNK" as the wheel drops in to a pot hole at 30 mph or lower and the off side goes "RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE" on broken road surfaces at any speed. My dealer has fixed everything else wrong with the car but these suspension noises will not go away. I am getting really ****** off now and as the dealer has no further options I have written to Honda. Is there any thing else I can do? |

Ask the dealer if this applies to the UK cars (it's from the US Si car, which is in essence the same as the Euro Civ):

Hi All
My car is now booked in for the 28 September for a refitting of the bump stop. I was told that if this didn't work they would replace it. They're going to do the dash visor aswell. |

Hi All
Went to Ruislip Honda today to have another look at the bump stop. Managed to negotiate a discount on the courtsey car, normally £20 now £10. I basically said I was fed up paying hire car bills which I was paying because of a fault on the car. Anyway after a whole day trying to fix the bump stop, they have decided to replace the whole strut assembly, which should be next week. They also said there was no comminication from Honda on a universal replacement programme of renewing the perspex on the dashboard. It's still if thy feel its damaged sufficiently to warrant replacement. |

Some good news, possibly, went to my Dealers t'other day and mentioned suspension still knocking and bump stop dangling again. They said a new bulletin had just come from Honda saying that if the bump stops keep detaching new struts should be fitted.
Car now booked in for new struts, will let you know if it comes back cured. (I really hope it does, or its going on ebay). I had wriiten to Honda asking that, if any design improvements or resolutions to detaching bump stops had been developed, could they please advise my dealer. I never recieved a response from Slough, but perhaps I flushed out new struts? |

Hi All
Took my car in yesteday for the strut replacement and was told that there will be one today. Got call from the Ruislip Honda to say that my strut is now on a back order at the factory, and they will contact me when it comes in. So Honda definately don't want to send out anymore dodgy shocks it would seem, but its a real pain now, as don't know when they will be coming in. There also appears to be some sort of political rangling at the factory as to what should take priority, warranty claims or parts necessary for production, either way I sense that Honda have become overwhelmed with warranty claims for the front shocks. Hi All
Well it certainly appears that Honda have become overwhelmed by requests for for front suspension parts. I had a chat with Ruislip Honda today. Apparently Honda have run out of front suspension struts. The earliest that they can deliver will be 13 October 07. This is a real pain for customers and will certainly have an impact on whether punters will buy another Honda again. |

Charley,
So what do you think, they have stopped manufacturing due to lack of parts ?. I have come to the opinion that Honda just don't have any kind of sensible spares department. It seems like no matter what part you need, the wait is too long, three days should be the maximum acceptable. Motor factors mostly can manage a 24 hour service, that's what I would expect from a main dealer. |

Hi pcr
I was told at the dealership that warranty claim parts come from the factory and as the factory are short of parts manufacturing has priority over warranty claims. I know it seems bizzare, but the thats the long and the short of it. Personally I think it's unacceptable, but what can you do? I also got the impression that there is a break down in the relationship between Sachs (the stut supplier) and Honda. I wont be surprised if future shocks are made by another supplier. |

Charely - I can certainly understand your frustration at the delay
However, it is unfortunately (and this doesn't make it right) the way of the world - supply and demand. In an ideal world, yes, Honda would have 3 dozen aircraft hanger sized warehouses, full of bump stops, ready to supply each and every single Civic owner with enough replacements to last them for the next 20 or so years. And they would then have another 4 dozen similar ones, full of tailgate struts (more warehouses needed as they are slightly bigger) But they would only need another 1 warehouse to cope with all the fuel filler cap springs and HFT foam (for the mod), as these are both very small. However, the reality is that they actually don't own the entire Lake District, and therefore don't have room to hold those levels of stock. Or indeed the spare cash to tie up in said warehouses full of bits. So in reality, what they do, is have enough stock to allow them to build the cars they are making between now and when the next lot of stock is due to arrive from (in this case) Sachs. Plus a few spare ones. This means that if they suddenly get a run on bump stops, becuase they start to fail, they very quickly use up the spares. At which point, they have 2 options 1) order more from Sachs (who, bear in mind, don't just make shocks for the Civic, or just for Honda, and therefore have their own production schedules - they can't just drop everything to make an extra 100 or 10,000 bump stops). And in the mean time, people such as yourself have to wait; or 2) nick the replacements from the production line. the facts of the matter (for Honda) are that in option 1) you, the owner, can still drive the car, all be it with rattles, but in option 2) there is a soon to be owner, who now has to wait, and Honda have to find somewhere to keep the half finished car in the mean time. As a customer, it sucks. But as a manufacturer - what would you do in Honda's shoes? PS - just re-read this to check - obviously you are now waiting for an entire unit Charley, not just a bump stop. But the above still applies. Which still doesn't make it right - just inevitable |

Hi TT
Thanks for your extended reply. I accept now that there will be a lengthly delay in the fitting of the strut. However, what I object to is the deception of both Honda and the dealership. The car was booked in some time ago for the repplacement strut which I thought happened. Then the noises came back and it was booked in again and I was told at the time that the previous visit was only for tightning of suspension bolts but not a replacement strut. As you can imagine I was fuming at this lie. Then the car was booked in again to see if they could fix the bump stop but couldn't. They said that last weds it will be fixed as the shock was due in but never arrived. THen this week I was told that there was an argument between Ruislip and Swindon as to who should have the spare shocks. I don't know what you think, but why didn't they tell me from the very beggining there was a shortage instead of all this prevarication. I would have prefered it that way, then I would have known were I stood. |
