Just based on reading the forum, I'm not sure it is just struts, it seems to be everything, I hope I'm wrong. Other dealers manage to supply parts in three days and I thought that was poor, but to have your car off the road for say ten days waiting for a part just isn't on.

I have been told today that my front strut is to be changed ....... due to the bump stop repeatedly coming off ....... and the rear shock absorbers are to be changed for a second time .... and new hangers for the exhaust in a further attempt (third try) to stop it rattling.. What is beginning to worry me is that after the warranty runs out - this is going to be a very expensive car to run. 6 dealer visits in 14 months is crazy.

The dealer is ever helpful, but basically the Civic seems badly assembled, from poor quality parts, then never inspected. The interior at 13,000 miles looks more worn than my 56,000 mile BMW does too.

Hi Pcr

My car wasn't off the road for ten days. Although the 3rd time it went in they were confident that the part had arrived and I had a courtsey car for 2 days. Afterwhich they told me that the part wasn't coming in because they had an argument with Swindon. It just seems that they are trying hard not to upset customers.

Charley,
Yes, sorry, I was imagining the possible situation regarding repairs when the warranty has expired, which is probably when most of us will need these struts.

Still waiting for new struts, they are on "back order"........Does this mean they can't make enough of them or all the ones they do make are c*** and get rejected?

Hi Soichiro

The current problem is that the shocks they have got are reserved for production vehicles only. I have told that mine will arrive on the 13 October 07. Don't worry, they will come eventually.

Hi Soichiro

Mines going into the dealers on Monday 15 October. Only one strut though. At least this time I won't have to pay for the courtesy car.

My car was in and had the wheels removed and probably the shocks to fix the top mounts and also re-attach the bump stops.

I am guessing that they would have removed the shocks to do this? Should they have done a realignment afterwards?

Hi Mattlittle

Theoretically they should check the alignment afterwards, but some garages don't. I would ask if they have done it.

Hi i am reading this thread and i got a little confused to be honest so i have spoken to my friend who works for Honda he explained to me

All parts for cars once they have left the factory will come from Honda Parts not the factory, The problem with the dates changing should be where Honda are checking each delivery from the supplier to make sure that they do not supply shocks with the same problem that we currently have. However if the shocks do come in with the same problem they will get rejected back to the supplier hence the date changing form your dealer.

Also as someone has already said the factory will only have stock for the currant planned run they are doing and no spares so its not a case of the new cars having a priority its just that they cant stop a production run to take the parts for other cars as you can imagine the problems this would cause cars being half built on the line waiting for parts.

This kinda made sense to me but it could just be my friend sticking up for Honda!!

I called and they told me that they didn't do it and it wouldn't need doing as they had only taken the front struts off, greased top mounts, etc and then replaced them.

They said that if it were the rear, then they would have adjusted the caster and camber but that these were not adjustable on the front. The toe-in and toe-out (which is adjustable) would not be affected by the removal and re-fitting of the same struts.

They did this on may car after I took it in complaining about the classic loose bump stop and associated noise. When I explained on the phone, they agreed that it would need a new strut.

Upon looking at it, they said that it was a loose stop, but that it would be refitted when they took off the strut - I asked why do that and they said that the noise was due to no grease having been applied to the top mount and that would need to be remedied.

They have done that and re-fitted the bump stop and the noise has indeed ceased.

It will be interesting to see if the bump stop stays 'stopped' or if it comes loose again!

Mine is going in for the same thing next week. They diagnosed it as bump stops. They are going to replace the shock (s) as a result of this. Presumably they would need to change both shocks? or am i wrong?

They should, but Honda UK don't want to pay for the pair, so they will probably try and tell you that you don't need the pair
