rusting discs
I've just cleaned my car today and realised that the brake discs have a considerable amount of rust on them. I've only had my Type S about 3months if that, surely they shouldn't be rusting already? I've not even done 1000miles yet.
Is this normal? |

Yes it is. You will only see it on the surface of the disc shortly after washing your Civic. When you use the brakes the rust cleans off. The iron they use is prone to rust.

Mine didnt they looks great.... Got just over 500 miles on mine but then the other day I noticed they were almost completely orange. A quick spin round the block soon shifted it though and theyre shiney again (for now)

Most of the brake disk are made in graphite cast Iron by now, cheaper and as good as steel disks but prone to surface rust. Don't worry. In fact surface rust protect the disk.

If they used stainless steel then the gripping power for the discs would be compromised.
Looking prettier, but not stopping so well. Go for rust, which won't last long, and the stopping power provided. "My Rice Krispies told me to do it!" Charles H. |

That's OK then, I thought Charles was going to suggest putting grease on them
In theory once the discs get hot the rust should just evaporate away. Mine go orange rusty when I clean the car but by the time I've done the 20 miles to work they are metal coloured again. |
