Just been to local garage they think it could be the driving rack, or something to do with the springs. Never felt a car with handling like mine before as the turning changes so much.

Guess is will be a job for Honda

Lean on the corners where the bonnet meets the wing over the struts.
See if you have any give at all.
See if both sides collapse and rebound the same.

Not hitech but will rule out obvious stuff like seized/bent damper

Dammit, steering rack and motor need to be replaced.

Honda want £1,600+ for the work

Does anyone know where i could get this work done other than Honda in the west midlands?

Cheers
James

Looks like i am not going to be able to get round having to pay out a small fortune to resolve the steering issues.

Parts from Honda are £1,300 alone

Wouldn't give allot of information to be honest, just kept with the whole unit needed replacing.

I have been quoted £240 for fitting which is estimated to take 7 hours.

Sound about right guys?

Maybe ask them to clarify what the issue is with the steering rack before you spend out that sort of money, it's pretty major they are claiming it needs to be changed. Have you had any accidents in the car?

As for the reported issue, lowering a car causes negative camber, in an ideal scenario camber bolts would be fitted to correct any excess negative camber.

Excessive negative camber can cause the steering to feel weird, you've lowered your car by a whole 25mm so I would get the camber measured at least and maybe corrected.

I will try and get more info on the problem, as for camber bolts they made no difference when fitted. The steering still makes a loud clunk noise half through turning.

To be honest I am at the point now that I will probably get this replaced and sell the car

A loud clunk when half turning?

Whoever fitted the springs did they fit the top mounts lined up correctly?

The reason I say this is that I had the same symptom and it was fixed when ABP realligned the top mount to its correct position.

I assume so mate, i had the car back after the springs had been fitted and everything was fine for about 3-4 months then i started to notice the problems.

Saying that i would be really happy if i could get the car back to how i remember

Not managed to get anymore info out of Honda

I have taken the plunge and managed to get a rack and motor taken from a 2009 low milage Civic, no reserves on either and got both for £90 including delivery with a 30 day warranty.

I also found out about a Rack and steering specialist very local to me after i had purchased the above who quoted £140 to repair my current one.

Who ever i get to do the work i will get them to check the top mounts, thanks for all the replies guys.
