Any further advice on rear brakes?

Is the best advice OEM rear disks/pads? brembo front disks and Ferrodo pads?

I cannot find Brembo rear disks anywhere (although think I spotted some brembo rear pads).

If Brembo front disks are cheaper than OEM front disks I was hoping the same would be true for rears?

TIA.

Hi Griffian,

Can you please tell me which car you inserted to the ferodo look up? I inserted the FN2 and only the rear pads showed up.. I'm might go for exactly the same set as you did.. Thanks

Sorry for using your old thread and for the long post.

Hoping to get a more "scientific" answer from someone who really knows this stuff - why everybody thinks EP3 front discs are exactly the same as FN2? Most manufacturers give them different product codes and prices vary a lot - for example in one shop Triscan disc for EP3 (8120 40139) is 32.39 eur and Triscan disc for FN2 (8120 40166) is 80.30 eur. Probably yes, EP3 discs are OK to use on FN2 (as so many of you do this), but I would very much like to know what exactly is the difference - some minor difference in measures perhaps or difference in materials? There has to be a reason why Brembo does not find its EP3 discs to fit FN2. On the other hand EBC for example has the same disc for both as do Stoptech.

Same with pads - some manufacturers have different codes as well - this I can understand - different pad material for newer pads probably and possibly better material in the FN2 pads as the car is heavier.

As for ds2500 pads - they are racing pads, not for street use and a little squeal comes with the territory...

I have no explanation for the part number difference, Every measurement between EP and FN front Type R discs are the same ( diameter, offset,PCD,thickness and centre bore etc). Maybe it is material but seeing as Brembo didn't make the original discs I don't see why they would use different metals and it would take a Metalurgist to work that out.

Ds2500s pads are for race use as they do not support Reg90 approval- principly I am reliably told regarding the +/- 15% test where a pad has to slow a car down within this percentage of the oem pad.

Basically this is to make sure a car doesn't slow down any quicker or slower by a large margin.

2500s stop quicker than this i bet

Well, I somehow don't feel comfortable using EP3 disks on FN2 unless i fully understand the difference... if there is any. On the other hand I have always bought the cheapest discs I have found for my cars and changed them on every pad change or every second pad change with no problems. It seems to me that pads and brake fluid have a much more important role, especially on track.

As for Ferodo - my next pads will be DS Performance FDS1444 - I had good experience with them years ago with my EVO 9 which was a heavy car. Did lots of track days. Went through several sets of them with no porblems. There were hints of squeal every now and then... on very light braking.

There are no dimensional differences from what I know using Brembos own data available online.

Discs are vital part of the link imo along with fluid, pads and lines. Try using a disc rated at 600 degrees on a setup that achieves 900 degrees when pushed.

Eco display
The Different part number comes from that manufacturer differentiating between EP3 and FN2 owners. The parts are identical but they're reckoning on the idea that they can charge more for the FN2 part as the car is newer.

No science involved.

OK. That makes some sence... business is business. Probably will go the same route as with my previous cars and buy the cheapest EP3 discs for my FN2.

I don't know much about temperatures but even 600 degrees is probably too much for most fluids and pads? As for my experience with EVO9 (cheapest possible discs, DS performance pads and ATE Racing Blue fluid) I melted off the front wheel caps with no braking issues... I quess that lighter CTR will not get that hot? of cource since then I have a habbit to remove front caps before track duty...

Fluids won't get as hot as mentioned as they are heated by conduction . Friction surfaces are heated directly and get much warmer.

What temp does steel glow at

I have been using ferodo Ds2500 front pads for the last years (previous oem, project mu, spoon pads and cosworth street).
Last month I bought endless NS97 front pads. This pads kills every pad I have used before, even the Ds2500.
For those that want fast road pads, these are the ones to get.

Would be interested to see how they stand up to hard abuse Nuno as the temp range is quite low, but the co-efficent is good for that range i admit

they are not race pads. They are fast road and they are simply the best pads I have used. They are super from the start, no dust, no noise, eveything is good. I don't do track so they are spot on for my driving.

the best street/race endless pads are the MX72. I was going to buy this but they were l litle agressive for me. If I wanted a more agressive pad than the NS97, the MX72 would be my first choice.
I don't know why I only now bought endless products. Not much more in terms of price than other pads if you buy from RHD japan for example.
