Tyre inflation.

On Sunday Top Gear had a race to the North Pole.

One of the vehicles needed to have its tyres inflated and they seemed to put gas lighter fuel into the tyre and then set light to it!

......but it seemed to work.

......seems easier than that stuff to inflate the tyre given out by Honda!

......will someone try it out and please let me know how they got on!

They used the lighter fuel to re-seat the tyre after it had come off the rim not to inflate it as such, they had a compressor on the back of the truck to do that.

I didn't see that programme, but in a previous one a few years ago the same technique was shown.
On the snow/ice the tyre running pressure is so low the tyre is easily unseated from the rim. That technique saves having to remove the wheel to get the tyre back on the rim.

Works fine on big baloon tyres as the side walls flex a lot, I doubt it would do anything but set fire to your tyre on an ordinary car.
But good luck if you want to try, please post the results I could do with a laugh.

The problem Charles, is that in these countries they only use 3psi in the Tyres. That leaves another 30psi for the foot pump! It is however a very dramatic way of seating the bead!

Anyone for a glass of Pinot Grigio ?
I already have the Merlot open!

I don't know if it was because the Hilux was intended for artic conditions where this problem happens a lot, or so that it could be sold in the USA to save people "lots of effort"; the tyre inflation was actually done from a special outlet built into the engine!

Did you notice how the wheel actually had two valve stems poking out! I wonder what that was all about then!

Maybe a bit off topic but today i noticed my back tire was almost flat, checked the bar's and it was 0,7 . I kept wondering how the fuel economy was a bit off during a 500km drive. Unfortunately i only noticed it back home, need to keep checking that the tyre wasnt damaged though..

I take it that you'll be coming into Ramsgate again this time.

Give us the ETA & Millie and I will be waiting.

If Mme Noel will not let you have the keys, I've a spare set from Millie that you can borrow!
