Which Brake Pads?

The front brake pads are getting down so was thinking of changing front and rears, what we want is an hassle free pad that is cleaner (less dust) than oem but has a bit more bite. The FN2 only gets used as a family car so track days wont happen and was thinking of red stuff, but we once fitted green stuff to our T180 and at first when new they were great loads of bite and very clean but once half worn I don't think they was any better than oem if as good on dust and bite.

I am open to ideas and welcome peoples comments on what you rate or should avoid but will say the budget for front and rear pads is around £120 max so please don't recommend pads that cost more as for town driving we don't need them, here is a couple of links I have looked at and like I said I welcome your thoughts and advice on this

Mintex

Yellow Stuff

Red Stuff

Brembo

I've got yellowstuffs at the moment and am very happy with them but a lot of people on here highly rate the Ferodos if you can afford them (not sure what the prices are).

I have ferodos they are really good can't comment on yellow stuff as never had them ! Mintex waste of money I had them at first took them off straight away no confidence in braking with them imo I didn't spend on decent pads & either ebc yellow stuff like syx or ebc redstuff or ferodo ds2500 buy cheap end up buying twice then costing more in the long run ? Don't skimp on brakes

Yes I agree here but to be fair for how we use the car the oem Honda pads are fine but would prefer some with less dust and as the OEM pads are good enough I feel the DS2500 pads are not worth the money to us as these cost around £120 for the fronts alone never mind the rears.

Yeah they are dear £97 fronts ! But they are really good but if after less dust these not for you as they do give of a bit more dust than normal ! If it's less dust then ebc it is & you can get them a lot cheaper than ferodo

IMO always Ferodo for a safe bet, standard or DS2500 depending on what you want, they are both the best in their class. Saying that I've not tried the Cosworth pads yet so they're next for me.

Other than the dust-free-ness of the EBC I'm not a fan.

5 of you have clicked red stuff but what are these like? I know I found the green stuff to be great at first but once half worn they were not that good plus also was very dusty when half worn

Cosworth streetmaster. No significant dirt, but good bite and needs minimal warm up. I'm satisfied with mine, use them with the same conditions as you want to (street, no track, wife drives the car too).

I have removed my vote because when I thought harder about it I seemed to remember that the reds didn't bite well when cold. However I may be mistaken... but didn't want to encourage something that turned out to be the wrong choice.

when you say cold bite do you mean the first 2-300 yards or most town driving if you drive normal? what was the dust like on these compared to oem?

I mean the first few applications. My yellows are soft (but still better than OEM) feel on the first application and then much better after - the reds it lasted a little longer and were a bit softer still until warm. Thinking about where I live, I'd have applied the brakes about 3-4 times at junctions at the bottom of hills before I stopped noticing.

OEM Honda may be dirty brake dust but I have found them to be the best allrounder. Just like OEM discs(big brake conversions aside) I have found to be best. Honda spends 10000's x more pounds on development of their parts than smaller the companies. They know what they are doing! Go for the OEM!!

Sorry Timbo but I have to disagree.
My 2.2 has braided hoses, uprated fluid, Type-R calipers, Brembo discs and Yellowstuff pads.

I drove a 1.4 SE last week as a loan car. I got back into mine and when I applied the brakes on my 2.2 in the same manner as the 1.4 I was restrained from hitting the steering wheel by the seatbelt! Honda's OEM brake setup (granted, I'm not talking about the CTR here) are nowhere near as good as what you can achieve with upgrades.

Yeah I disagree, too. I'm only guessing here but I highly doubt Honda manufacture their own discs and pads. Ferodo and the like will have far more specific R&D and experience behind them. Brakes are all they do.

Agree with Syx here, Every part on any car is made by the lowest bidder, designed to meet a minimum need with a factor for reliability added in.

Performance and aftermarket parts are much better, infact on the rear of my car I have PAGID oem spec pads and discs and they perform better than the stock items in every respect.
