Kwik Fit brakes
Dont know if this has been posted before but, i was wondering if anyone has taken up the Kwik Fit brake offer where they replace the pads or shoes on the car for free, when you buy a set of brake pads or shoes. As i need a new set of brake pads on my civic after only 14k miles (99.9% motorway).
Cheers |

14K miles with mainly motorway use ! That seems excessive. How can they wear out if you don't use them most of the time?
I'm also 99% free flowing motorway/dual carriageway and I will be interested to see what level mine are at the first service. Having said that though, I have followed some drivers on the motorway that appear to be continually - accelerate - brake - accelerate - brake behind the car in front which I would think would quite quickly wear out the pads. I had to suffer a journey once with such a driver, couldn't work out why he was doing it! Not accusing you of doing that though My previous IS200 had 36K on the clock when I p/x'd it and it was still on the original pads and tyres. |

In my experience, you can't get sh**ter than a Kwik-Fit Fitter.
I'm sure they're not all bad, but Kwik Fit seem to take every opportunity to bump up the overall price on a job (by recommending replacement of parts when they're still perfectly legal or within manufacturers tolerances). What's more, on the few occasions I had to use them (not by choice I might add), I was taken aback at how little care they take with customer vehicles. Trust me, it's an eye opening experience waiting for 2 hours whilst watching these boys in action |

See here for the deal Brakes :: Free brake check
"Lifetime guarantee To ensure your brakes are always at their best, we offer a unique brakes lifetime guarantee. Once you have pads or shoes fitted at Kwik Fit, the replacement of these parts when they wear out is absolutely free to you, as long as you own the car." Sounds like a deal to me, may try them once I need new pads although at 8500 miles so far they seem fine. |

I think they might take the opportunity to tell you that your drums need replacing (though obviously not in the case of the Civic
Of course, neither of these items would fall under their 'lifetime' guarantee! |

How can they afford to keep on replacing brake pads free of charge - or are the pads free but the labour is £150 an hour or part of?

Be warned. Kwik Fit undertook a 'free' pre-MOT inspection on my MKII escort some years ago. They condemned both track rod ends. Since I hadn't felt any steering wander or seen asymmetric tyre wear I had the same track rod ends audited immediately afterwards by a colleague in the motor trade. He detected no evidence of wear whatsoever and consequently they were still on the car several MOT's and many thousands of miles later when I sold the car. I haven't ever forgiven Kwik Fit for that.

For their lifetime warranty, aren't Kwik Fit saying that the actual replacement of the part is free i.e. the labour, but not the actual part itself? To me, the way it's worded is very ambiguous.
Either way, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Rest assured, they've factored in how to make a decent profit, even if its by 'recommending' additional work elsewhere on the vehicle. Last time I checked they were a PLC not a registered charity. On another point, I doubt very much Kwik Fit use original Honda parts. So wouldn't having them carry out a job using cheaper/alternative pads invalidate your 3 year warranty (on that part of the vehicle at least)? |

I defo take the offers free parts & labour... makes it more likely you will return for them to have the opportunity to tell you the tyres/shocks/exhaust is knackered.
I was shafted by KF on an exhaust system on my 1st car - never again will I listen to their opinions. They are sh*te-monkeys who should be told what you want & not listened to in return! |

I recently (3 days ago), took my car (only out of desperation I may add) to Kwik Fit for 1 new wheel, the 4 wheels on the car were in perfect order apart from the front passenger wheel, which had a gouge in the wall, (glad I'm a nerd and do these checks........
So the moral of the storyis; I'd rather set my car on fire then urinate on it to put it out then drive it around in that condition, than let one of those what they laughably refer to as "technicians" near my car or it's brakes. Tom |
