Wheel won't come off! Novice question.

So I currently have a flat tyre after driving over a screw earlier, which is feel and truly embedded. Went to put my space saver on and...

I don't ever remove my wheels on my civic, always used to take my old cars wheels off, mainly due to my civic being just over a year old, but i undid the wheel nuts and no matter what i do it won't budge

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Have you just stopped driving? If you have the heat will have effectively welded the wheel t the hub, tbh I tend to just hit the wheel edge with the base of my hand and it'll eventually come off...... Ya big blouse!! lol

Had this before on a Mondeo. In the end used a rubber mallet to belt the wheel off - took some hammering but they will eventually come free. Just make sure you have the car securely raised first!

This might sound really silly but better to start with the obvious but you have undone and removed all the wheel nuts?

If so and the car is secure on an axel stand or equivalent then try using a mallet and a piece of wood to protect the wheel and give the wheel a good smack with the mallet all the way around and then as much as you can on the rear of the wheel.

It sounds like it's slightly seized on which isn't uncommon if they haven't been off in a while but it should still come off easy enough with some gentle persuasion.

Make sure the car is well supported when jacked up and sit facing the wheel and kick it at nine and three on a clock position if you get my drift. One side at a time and this should loosen it.

Thanks people, but I don't have my trolley jack at home with me so I'm I'm using the little metal thing that came with the car, tried hitting it a few times, my last attempt was to shake the ****er off, but the whole car was rocking that much the jack nearly tipped over.

Will try with a mallet in the morning

Exact same method I use, hit it with the base of your hand on opposite side then pulls it off.

Mine are tight every time. Has the wheels off 2days apart a couple of weeks ago and was tight.

Eco display
Get some copper grease on the hub before you put the wheel back on to make it easier next time around

Just wondering what you'd do in an emergency situation when you get a flat tyre, and can't get wheel / bolts off !!

Sometimes the bolts are really tight.

Nuts slightly loose (!), drop on deck. Right then left with the steering wheel and then try again. Opposite for left handed folk

I had this recently when trying to change a wheel on my sisters car. It would not budge no matter how much kicking or shaking. Called out the AA in the end as I wasn't 100% sure something else wasn't holding it on and was afraid I may damage something. They turned up and whacked it with a leather mallet and it popped off immediately.

The AA guy also suggested as mentioned above lowering from the jack (with loosened nuts) to try and pop the wheel.

this is the best way 2 swift kicks against it 1 at a time this way you also reduce any rockin that mite occur. If it doesnt work youve obviously just kicked it like a girl
