which is better

hi all,I am going ordering braided brake lines to enchance the braking,it was suggested to me to go with ferodo's 2500 brake pads, and was going to get them until i saw the price of them this morn £205 sterling for both back and front not including delivery to ireland, now this may be considered a good price i dont really know tbh but with the weak euro against the sterling i dont think i could afford these nor did i expect them to be that.I taught €150 - €180 tops would cover brake pads.
Then this eve total_K-os had posted up this thread in the "ads for auction"section, these
Honda Civic 2.2 CDTi Grooved Brake Discs & Mintex Pads | eBay
now my question/s is
1 Has anyone ever fitted grooved discs to their derv before,if so where they good?
2 Would these be better than a high performance brake pad like mentioned above?.
3 Would anybody know are these easly fitted?
4 Do they fit straight on without any extra fittings needed?
5 Surely they would be even better again with braided hoses?
If the discs wouldnt be as good as the high performance brake pads can anyone suggest brake pads that would be as good as or nearly as good as the ferodos but for less money
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers al.

Check out the "EBCbrakesdirect" website

Probably 'Yellowstuff' pads for the 2.2 - also look at the 'Turbogroove' disks (for when your current disks need changed)

Use the Civinfo discount code !!!

Irrespective, you still need the braided stainless steel hoses - and upgrade the brake fluid as well, perhaps Motul RBF600 (1.5 litres for total flush and change) - and these can all be sourced from Companies in the Forum

Advice, please! Discs to go with Streetmaster pads?

Change Brake Disks?

Bit of info for you from recent threads

The disks are great, i buy from Mtec on ebay (free pads also)

The mintex pads aren't great, better than OEM, but not great; unless you get their street/track pads (redbox? i think they're called, cant remember)
IMO - you should get yellowstuff, DS2500 or Pagid pads

Lines and fluid are essential if you plan on extended use of the brakes, heavy driving on lanes/track, somewhere with lots of braking points from speed
Standard lines expand with heat & high braking force, the piston loses pressure due to the lines rubber walls widening
FIX - buy steel lined brake lines

Fluid can become so hot it 'boils' and renders your brakes much less efficient
FIX - buy RBF600 (or similar) fluid which can withstand much more punishment

Also, they fit as a standard disk & pad would fit, very easy to do given you have the tools (fairly basic tools)

I am only upgrading the brakes for peace of mind more than anything.Wont be doin any track days at all,it is mainly used for short we communal treks to town and that,no racing for me.I would just like them as sharp as german brakin, which im used to but what the missus is used to which is more important lol.I have ferodo's premier pads all round at the momemt.
Scotty 182 when you refer to the disks are you referring to the actual disks that i put the link up of?
J.Derek Riddell you refer to when the disks need changing. How often do discs need to be change, ive never had to get disks changed on any of my previous cars before. Are they that soft that they wear away or what?
Thanks for the help and advice and links lads

Then the Mintex that come with the disks you posted will be fine (sharper than OEM)

The disks are virually identical to the ones i'm using, i can't account for the quality of the materials used by that particular company but mine are perfect
See the links i posted above: Mtec are roughly £160, inc pads, for a full set

I wouldn't go for fast street or track pads if they aren't going to get used as such often, as they'll actually decrease in effectiveness
Maybe green stuff would be better suited to your needs if you dont want the Mintex
But like i said, if i were you id use the Mintex

Disks : my OEM Disks lasted 2 years - then I fitted EBC Turbogroove, which have lasted 3 years, but they have virtually no grooves left !

So, new EBC TG Disks being fitted at the end the month, plus Cosworth Streetmaster Pads - while upgrading to front CTR Disks, Calipers, Guards, Pads

may i just run this idea past yous, braided hoses then the turbo groove brake discs for the front(practically the same price as the ones from the ebay link above but better quailty??).Then the green stuff brake pads for front,I have ferodo's premier pads al round at the moment with plenty of wear still left so just leave the ferodos on the back.??
people have mentioned the yellowstuff brake pads are the green stuff brake pads as good as them and are yellow and green stuff brake pads as good as ferodo's 2500??
Both the green stuff pads and the turbo groove disks can be seen on the website that J.Derek Riddell gave me,heres the link.

There's no point in buying DS2500 or yellowstuff of you aren't going to use them as intended
So either stick with the pads you have (premiers) or get mintex/greenstuff

As for the disks, you'll no doubt find the quality to be near identical between the disks from Mtec and the TurboGroove disks
Just a difference in price

The lines and fluid will benefit any brake set-up

In my opinion DS2500 are ALOT better than yellowstuff and yellowstuff are better the greenstuff, but only if you're going to 'use' them.
Using a track orientated pad for daily commute use only isn't advisable as braking efficiency will drop

I agree (or mostly) with all the responses in here

1) EBC Turbogroove Disks are +800C rated, while amost all others are +650 C

2) I was very happy with EBC Greenstuff Pads, until I 'smoked' the front pads on the German Autobahn system last year

3) Anything is better than Honda OEM kit

4) Whatever else you do, get the braided stainless hoses and upgraded fluid

I have purchased ferodo premier pads, ferodo discs for EP3 on front and same on the rear but 2.2 specs obviously.

I will let you know what they are like when they are fitted.

I have painted the discs all over with high temperature black paint as to protect the discs from rusting. The pads will clean up the braking surface - similar to the MTEC black coated discs.

went looking at those discs on ebay that i mentioned in my first post on this thread and realised that you are actually getting all four discs and postage to ireland seems to be inclusive in price,so really this is a very good deal for a person like me that wouldnt "use" high performance disks??.They are dimpled and grooved disks, whcih is better than drilled and grooved disks right??As i was told that drilled and grooved arent al that good??
Would the ferodo premier pads that i have now be as good as the mintex pasds that come with the disks?.

Yes the ferodo would probably be just as good but
NEW DISKS = NEW PAD
Sorry for shouting

And yellow stuff are actually a fast road pad used by the met as standard
And they wee on the green stuff and are comaprable performance to ds2500.
Ds2500 have much more feel and control...yellow are on off when they are warmed up.
Blue stuff are the high endurance race pad
