Road noise on summer vs. winter tyres
I got my Civic with the 17" Storm rims and some Michelin 225x45R17 for the summer. I got the original 17" roms for Winter tyres.
I've now put a set of Hankook studless winter tyres on the original rims, and although these are very soft compared to summer tires, the difference is road noise is huge! Now, when driving on the winter tyres, road noise is almost completely gone and the drive is so much better. So I'm thinking of scrapping those Michelins when the summer comes and get something a bit more quiet. Any suggestions? |

Studless winter tyres generally are less noisy than summer tyres, so you can't expect to reach the noise level you have now with a summer tyre.

Yes, I'm aware that I won't get the same noise level om harder summer tyres, but I guess there are differences in summer tyres that might help. Has anyone had any experience with different makes of summer tyres on the civic in regards to noise?

I recall reading in this forum that Goodyear Eagle GSD3 is silent, but it's a new model out now, so it might have changed.

Wide tyres also make more noise. |

At the time the spaceship arrived late 2005/early 06 when there was a lot of test driving going on in several car mags, I read that it was hard to come up with something worse than the Michelin's regarding noise. For once, I agree with them. They was wondering why on earth they put so lousy tyres on a great car like the civic!
I'm going to scrap them soon! |

My studded Pirelli Carving don´t make too much noise, but the handling is not great at speed.
I am thinking Nokian Hakka.. |

Have Continental studless (205/55-16) - very silent.
Got Nokian studless on the ZX and they are also very silent compared to earlier studless on that car. |
